The Long-Term Budget Outlook, CBO Directors Blog
From the Blog -
“The current recession and policy responses have little effect on long-term projections of noninterest spending and revenues. But CBO estimates that in fiscal years 2009 and 2010, the federal government will record its largest budget deficits as a share of GDP since shortly after World War II. As a result of those deficits, federal debt held by the public will soar from 41 percent of GDP at the end of fiscal year 2008 to 60 percent at the end of fiscal year 2010. This higher debt RESULTS IN PERMANENTLY HIGHER SPENDING to pay interest on that debt. Federal interest payments already amount to more than 1 percent of GDP; unless current law changes, that share would rise to 2.5 percent by 2020.”
And the above is BEFORE nationalized heathcare and Cap and TAX (trade)…
I have been in the military serving overseas, TRICARE Blows!!! I have stories I could tell you of my spouse going in for a check-up only to be sexually harassed by a male officer, who probably does not even have a medical degree, that absolutely wanted to perform a check-up on her. I have stories of friends now that have surgeries performed by military doctors who are worse now than before they were operated on. I have stories of civilian Dentist criticizing the work that was performed on myself by military dentist.
If you think Government health care plans are better than what we have now, I would disagree. I will gladly pay a small fee to be seen at a medical clinic. Hell, I would much rather pay my health insurance and choose what plan and services and what doctors I want to see.
wow!!! i read the first page of this discussion and a couple more pages only to skim to the last page…my post on this topic might seem irrelevant at this point.
Actually Rob you bring up a good point. As a veteran I agree with you in regards to health care in the military although the few experiences I had with the medical staff were positive. However with that being said I think the VA health care system is a disaster. The hospitals are sub-standard and the staff are simply overwhelmed.
I never ever go to a VA hospital for anything. My wife works for a large multi-national corporation and we get top notch health care for a very reasonable price every month. I have worked with many veterans on VA loans and have heard nightmare stories about the lines and the waiting at a VA hospital. Anytime they had to go to the VA for ANY procedure they have to take the entire day of work. None of this running to the Dr’s office on your lunch break, or leaving an hour early to get the last appointment of the day. It is worse than going to the emergency room.
With that being said… what is the solution for persons with no health insurance? Just let them die of the flu or of cancer? If your employer does not provide you with health insurance what are your options currently?
robdedgar,
The majority of people are happy with their health insurance…
The June 24, 2009 article is based on a joint Kaiser/ABC News/USA Today study regarding health insurance…
Some highlights…
“As the Obama administration pushes for a national health care plan, studies show that most Americans are overwhelmingly happy with their own health care – but they are dissatisfied with the country’s overall system, because most Americans who have insurance BELIEVE that those who don’t have it are not receiving care.” (of course, if this was actually consistently REPORTED, they may come to a different conclusion)…
“Those same studies, however, show that a surprisingly large 70 percent of the estimated 46 million Americans who don’t have insurance say they do, in fact, receive health care, and that a vast majority of them are satisfied with it.”
"Uninsured Americans, not surprisingly, are not as satisfied as people who have insurance. Nonetheless, 70 PERCENT of the uninsured who indicated their level of satisfaction said they were either “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with their health care, and only 17.5 percent said they were “very dissatisfied.”
“…it follows that out of ALL Americans, only 2.3 percent are both uninsured and “very dissatisfied” with the care they receive. The number rises to 3.9 percent when you include all the uninsured who are dissatisfied in any way with their health care. To put those numbers differently, 5 million uninsured Americans are very dissatisfied with their health care. Including those dissatisfied in any way raises that to 8.4 million.”
“A MAJORITY OF THE UNINSURED ARE NOT DESPERATELY POOR; about 60 percent of them have personal incomes OVER $50,000 per year and pay out of their own pockets when necessary, rather than paying for insurance. Others manage to obtain care at highly discounted rates as charity cases.”
So we are getting ready to turn the entire healthcare industry upside down, when MOST people, insured AND uninsured are “very satisified” with the care they receive…
The question you have to ask yourself is WHY is this information NOT reported???
Where as I agree that something needs to be done I dont agree that nationalized health care is the solution. Less Government involvement in my life the happier I am.
Rob,
I agree something does need to be done.Since when did they skip right over govt regulating to govt takeover. This is just another step towards communism.
Why are they not addressing the real trouble with healthcare cost, all the lawsuits. If there was some cap on this the problem would be greatly reduced. That’s how the doctors feel anyway, but what do they know it’s only their job.Surely the paper pushers in washington know whats best for themselves,I mean the rest of us :rolleyesIf it’s such a great plan how come they won’t be on it??And nobody gets to read it again, and we all seen how great the last bill(stimulous)they did’nt read worked out. :banghead
CBO… in their own words on the Obama/DEMS plan for healthcare and how it does NOT save money but in contrast will “significantly” EXPAND costs…

And now Obama wants to increase the Executive Branch’s power over Medicare rates…

Morning Bell: Obama Admits He’s “Not Familiar” With House Bill…
http://www.heritage.org/2009/07/21/morning-bell-obama-admits-hes-not-familiar-with-house-bill/
From the article - “This is a truly disturbing admission by the President, especially considering that later in the call, Obama promises yet again: “If you have health insurance, and you like it, and you have a doctor that you like, then you can keep it. Period.” How can Obama keep making this promise if he is not familiar with the health legislation that is being written in Congress? Details matter.”
What the heck are we paying these people for? The Congress doesn’t read the bill, the President doesn’t read it, but pushes it nonetheless :rolleyes who the heck is writing this legislation and WHY are they not reading it???
They took over 1 1/2 - 2 years to develop Medicare, and this nationalization of the healthcare system, which is extremely more complex, they want to ram through in months???
Even Democrats are saying they need to slow down…
http://www.ajc.com/health/democrats-divided-on-health-96628.html
The MAYO CLINIC on the House health bill: “Although there are some positive provisions in the current House Tri-Committee bill … the proposed legislation misses the opportunity to help create higher-quality, more affordable health care for patients. In fact, it will do the opposite. … The real losers will be the citizens of the United States.”
I did not know that self-insured was the case to this extent…
"An industry source expressed concern that “self-insured” company plans would be victimized, noting a 2008 Kaiser Family Foundation survey that found 77 percent of firms with more than 200 employees FUND THEIR OWN workers’ benefits, rather than contract with an outside insurer. That figure goes up for firms with 1,000 or more workers, where the vast majority are SELF-INSURED, said Marisa Milton, vice president for healthcare policy and government relations at the HR Policy Association.

So the vast majority of people are HAPPY with their insurance (to the tune of 80-90%), 60% of the supposed 45 million uninsured make $50K + per year (even though this number INCLUDES illegal immigrants), and ALL of these 45 million “uninsured” have access to healthcare (and 70%+ are HAPPY with their exisiting care), so the question needs to be asked…
WHY does the government need CONTROL of the healthcare industry when the VAST MAJORITY are HAPPY with this existing care/coverage, and this INCLUDES the supposed 45 million uninsured? BTW, this CONTROL will be under the same TAX CONTROLS as Social Security… IOW, an OPEN-ENDED tax on the citizens…
The other thing to think about in this issue is do you hear ANYONE in government talking about how the actual healthcare will be better under the government? No, me neither… you would think that this would be a big SELLING POINT if it was the case…
So, the two main selling points for government care are:
Access to healthcare - we have already seen that EVERYONE has access to healthcare, and 70% of the “uninsured” are HAPPY with their care.
Bring costs down - as much as Obama wants this to be the case, the CBO says its not, as they say in contrast - it will COST MORE!
So, what is the benefit to giving over 1/7th of our economy to a government who has NEVER had a social program come in under budget NOR has it’s projections rarely ever materialized???
He met with CBO higher up today and rahm probably held a gun to his head so watch those numbers “change” soon.RIDICULOUS,what a mess we’re in.
So, the two main selling points for government care are:
1. Access to healthcare - we have already seen that EVERYONE has access to healthcare, and 70% of the “uninsured” are HAPPY with their care.
2. Bring costs down - as much as Obama wants this to be the case, the CBO says its not, as they say in contrast - it will COST MORE!

I know… tough question to answer, especially in view of yet ANOTHER government program (stimulus) NOT doing what it was supposed to do to the point where a majority of the people now want the rest of the spending CANCELED, as a majority are MORE concerned with the deficit/debt, and a majority don’t want nationalized healthcare…
Haven’t heard much from the Obama supporters lately… the cricket sounds are getting louder…
One thing is for sure… people are not happy with the idea of nationalized healthcare… healthcare reform, yes, nationalized healthcare, NO!!!

And Obama in his own word, on his REAL agenda regarding healthcare…
The FACT that Dem representatives KILLED a Rep ammendment making Congress use the same system they want to impose on the rest of the country should tell you all you need to know about the Dem program… :bs
Just like with “stimulus”, the Dem’s are stuffing all their pet-legislation activity that they can’t get passed through the normal legislative process into the government plan…
http://asia.news.yahoo.com/ap/20090805/twl-us-health-care-overhaul-abortion-ef375f8.html
Add to that, that once again, the Dem’s shot down a Rep amendment EXEMPTING Congress from having to use the same government run healthcare that they want the rest of the country to live under… They are making THEMSELVES the privileged class with two tiers of healthcare… one for the “little people” and one for them…
This should give you INSIGHT into how the Dem’s view the citizens of the country…
It should be a LAW that WHATEVER law is passed, CONGRESS should have to live under the same terms as the people they represent…
Americans need to understand that, our health care system isnt that bad. Its actually pretty good(quality wise). The costs are ridiculous, but IMO, thats because government is getting in the way of the doctors/patients more than what they need to be.
Yet, we solve the problem by putting more stuff between doctors/patients. Add the fact government programs NEVER work, I cant believe were even considering national health care.
You gotta’ be kidding me… you would think a townhall is like a movie theater… time to turn the cell phone off…

OBAMA’S MISLEADING and FALSE CLAIMS AT HIS STAGED TOWN HALL…
1. Isakson Blasts Obama And US House For Misleading Public, Misrepresenting His Association With Health Care Bill
2. Obama said AARP has endorsed the bill… NO, it has not…
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/08/president-obamas-senior-moment.html
3. Obama doesn’t want people to say there were “plants” in the audience - Problem is, the little girl promo’d on the news asking the question about “mean signs outside” was a plant. She is the daughter of an Obama Campaign Booster… not only that. they don’t live in Portsmith…
So, Obama makes the statement about plants, and the media does NOTHING…
4. Astroturf? - Here’s a report from WMUR (channel 9, NH) - the Obama supporters (i.e. the ones inside - listen to the end of the report) were BUSS’D IN!
http://www.wmur.com/video/20358253/index.html
So, not only were there plants, but the supporters were buss’d in… and does anyone seriously think that out of ALL the townhalls going on, where EVERYONE is voicing their frustration and voluminous problems with the Dem Healthcare Bill’s, that somehow this townhall was the only one that didn’t?
Hmmm… I wonder why? :rolleyes
What I find amazing is that noone is asking why the citizens of this country had to do the JOB of their representatives and actually read the proposed legislation?
If people hadn’t done this, this monstrosity would have PASSED… We couldn’t even count on the media, who are SUPPOSED to be the watch dogs of government to do THEIR job…
So, after being caught on video rudely talking on her cell phone while a female cancer survivor is trying to ask a question…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L3FnWNkIzU
…now Democrat Representative Sheila Jackson-lee instead of apologizing, suggests that the video was doctored after being asked MULTIPLE times about it and ignoring the question…
CNN - CNN’s Sanchez Presses Jackson-Lee Over Weird Claim Phone Video Was ‘Doctored’
Now what makes this strange is at the end of the story, she says - “I know nothing about the video- I know nothing about the video, Rick, and I’m not going to comment on it.” :banghead :bs
