What do you drive to a rehab?

I only have one vehicle right now since that’s all I can afford.
It’s a 2004 PT Cruiser, and I love it. Trouble is, there’s no cargo
room to speak of, and it’s too nice to throw a ladder on the roof.
Also, I have two children that need a back seat. Any suggestions
for a good vehicle to haul lumber sometimes, and kids at others?
What do y’all drive?

I have an Ford F-150 extended cab…room behind the front seat for “junx”…you can put car seats back there, too – there’s plenty of room. I got it because I was tearing up the BMW SUV that we have…

Yea, Buddy ;D

I drive a Ford F-150 supercrew. It has plenty of room. Large cabin. The super crew has a short bed on it, but it gets the job done. It was affordable, too. I bought it used certified for about $20k, it had about 22k miles and had the same waranty as a new. Its great for the family and I don’t have to worry about messing up any interior. And try not to buy new, buy a certified used with a good waranty. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

'91 Ford Explorer with 189k miles. Yes, it still runs. Long since paid for, but nearly worthless to try and sell (4x4 nor does the A/C work). Great work vehicle as I could care less what happens to it as long as its driveable.

96 Dodge Ram here. w/86k miles.

Ford has an F-150 lease for 200 bucks a month. It has 4 doors, hold six passengers plenty of cargo room and 4wd. I put two grand down, Ford matched it and I happily pay my 214/month every month. And I’ll be happy to give it back when Im done with the lease. There is also an option to turn it in or extend the lease.

I use a 94 Econoline Ford Van with 142,000 miles. Lots of room to stuff things in and it can get 17 MPG. I bought a used telephone service 1 ton truck with a box for tools. It doesn’t get used much right now the mileage sucks about 8 MPG. I have been running about 100 miles per day, but that should end in two weeks. Used about $3K and paid for.

Jeep Grand Cherokee. It can hold almost as much as a van, but you look good when you go out in it.

Yea the van is not pretty!

Toyota Tacoma Double Cab. It holds (small) kids in the back seat. In a pinch, adults can ride back there too, but it’s not real comfortable. For larger items, I pull a 14’ utility trailer. It’s got a Knaack box mounted on it for tools. My daughter is 6; in 10 years she can have the truck and I’ll buy another. I’m sure that will go over well.

2001 Dodge Ram Quad Cab/short bed. Should have opted for the 8ft bed and fwd!!!

Hi, you might consider a small utility trailer, just use it when you need it, very easy to pull with your car.

94’ Honda Civic

Heh, Gordo!

Hey good on gas! Can’t haul %$^& but I use other people’s vechicles for that. Just like using other peoples monies for my REI

For my money nothing beats a late model GMC Safari/Chevy Astro Passanger van. Most have roof bars in place for ladders. Remove the rear seats and you can fit in a full sheet of drywall AND close the tailgate (try that with a shortbed pick up). Put the seats back in and you have 7-8 passenger capacity. Besides it really isn’t a ‘mini’-van – it looks pretty decent. I get about 15-18mpg on an AWD, V6 with 117k miles.

Plus (and a big one) american made passanger vans depreciate HUGE, (read: can get a 5 or 6 year old one for < $8000 – again try that with a 4wd truck or import van).

Well we were on a roll there for just a hot second with the pick-em-up trucks, but it seems likes there’s no definitively right thing to drive to a rehab. I guess if I was going to do it right, I’d drive a restified '57 GMC panel truck. That’d be slick. 8)

I agree, as long as it gets ya there and hauls what ya need.

P.S. did you fix those exit wounds?

Oh, hey Fortunate, I got scared and ran away from that one. Termites, mold, and foundation problems turned up along with the butt holed walls. Too many troubles for a potential first rehab. Thanks for the fix suggestions though.

I’m glad you found all that stuff before you jumped in.
Good job on your due diligence.
I have a fixer upper I’m going to look at on Friday. I don’t even know if the seller is motivated lol… I’m just following leads.
Good luck to you and future success.
