THE SECRET

To the person who asked for a summary of the book before…not a bad one here from someone who hasn’t even read it…the point being that the “Secret” is anything but.

To those who ACHIEVE the “secrets” in the Secret are (for the most part) common sense.

But as a mentor of mine liked to say “Common sense ain’t common”

Is everyone going to suddenly become a make-it-happen kind of person after reading these books? Of course not, that’s not the point.

Something, that, after all, I think most entrepreneurs look to do, do they not?

[iThey are just big mouth dreamers and braggers, thinking that they are making themselves look important][/i]

Tatertot,
I have 2 friends who are both tradesmen who have been bothering the heck out of me to do real estate deals with them for years…Now I have stuff that is actually making money and affordable to get into and both have excuse upon excuse why they can’t right now etc…Yet both of these guys have 3k+ TV’s in their living rooms, expensive SUV’s in the driveway…

People baffle me…IMO the more showy a person is the less they actually have…

They may actually have alot, but it goes out the window for all the toys they buy - $1k car payments, boats, etc…

Welcome to the forum,

Essentially it’s a rehash of other things a lot of different readings, but the video and book are good to have read just as a refresher course.

Bluemoon,

I have seen the exact behavior you talk about in your post. I have good friends who say all the time “You have to teach me how you do this stuff.” One of them was really persistant, so I actually brought him in with me on a small rehab. It was a Mobile home. The project was a joke as far as rehabs go. Paint, new carpets, new flooring throughout and my specialty “Lakesidemouldings Kitchen remodel” (new draws and doors)

When I start a rehab EVERYTHING (but family) gets put on the back burner. NO fishing, no restoring old cars, no goofing off. I want to be in and out and have that property finished and listed in under 30 days.

Well guess what???
As we get into the down and dirty part of the job, all of a sudden, there’s “things” he has to go to. Can’t get there until 10am, can’t stay past 3pm. ALL BS. In the end I finished the project myself in 28 days and sold it for a quick $25K profit (on a $40K investment) It worked out fine for me but like you said, this guy would have rather gone to a baseball game than REALLY LEARN and WORK. The funny part of the story is I was willing to cut him in for a nice chunk of the profit IF he had REALLY showed some hard work and a willingness to GET IT done! He didn’t. We’re still friends.
Instead of a real estate cash cow business, he now makes his extra money working at Home Depot part time:shocked

“Some people you just can’t reach”

"Some people you just can't reach"

I would carry that a little farther and say that “the vast majority of people you just can’t reach”. I have heard the “gurus” say that they go on a 95/5 rule. In other words, 95% of the people they sell their expensive courses, bootcamps, and mentoring to, will never do anything in real estate. I have even been to big REIA conventions where the “gurus” were offering to reimburse the student for the price of their course or bootcamp if the student did a deal within 90 days. Why do they do that? Because they KNOW that 95% of the wannabes don’t have what it takes to actually do anything.

Ten Traits That Make You Filthy-Rich

Mike I think the number is worse than that. The only method I have come up with that will guarantee success is get a job working for an investor… That way you can say youre an investor when in reality youre just an employee making someone else money…

Each one of my Buyers are paid a salary of 2500.00 a month plus a 600 bonus, for them it is fine… What is weird is that they dont try to buy on their own even knowing how to do it… I think it must be something like the “Sheep Syndrome” or a fear of not having a job…

I think No. 10 is the key trait of them all rookie.

You should be happy for him - he actually has the courage to pursue his goals. It may not seem like a good decision to you (or me), but life is all about the individual pursuit of happiness. Ultimately, the only use of money is to exchange it for time or happiness. Hopefully it works out for your former employee.

pursue his goals

I don’t know if ‘bar hag’ is much of a goal. Aim Low, Achieve Low, I guess

:bs :bs

Believe it or not, “bar hag” is a much higher goal than many of my tenants. Many of them have as their goal to live their life on public assistance and to see how many kids they can have, all with different men. I’ve currently got one that is in her early 20s with six kids from 6 men! However, she’s young and on pace to set a NEW WORLD RECORD! NOW THAT’S A GOAL!

Mike

Which part is B.S.?
You don’t think individuals should pursue their goals?
You don’t think life is about the pursuit of happiness?
You think money is more valuable than time or happiness?

Please explain your B.S. comment.

You should be happy for him - he actually has the courage to pursue his goals.

Please remind what goal we are talking about here?..The goal to be lower class and live paycheck to paycheck?..What is so happy about that?..That is the part that is BS to me…He has a chance to make a real living and gives it up for what pursuit of happiness?..My answer was clear I think it’s your post that you need to clarify…The only reason why individuals make decisions like this guy are simply out of laziness…A huge portion of the population is just lazy…That’s why people never make it,never save enough…They do not have the drive and they are lazy…So if his goal was to be a lazy lower class person who lives paycheck to paycheck and that was his pursuit of happiness then he is a total idiot…

And no I do not feel that money is more valuable than time or happiness…But what I will say the time I spent breaking my a$$ in this world from 18-35 while the happy bunch wasted those prime years…We will see who is happier while I’m retired early and being very happy because I sacrificied the pursuit of happiness/goals BS and got serious and earned like I should be…I have the rest of my life ahead of me to do as I please…If there is no goal in life then it’s a wasted life…I’m sorry to respectfully disagree with your post…

“So if his goal was to be a lazy lower class person who lives paycheck to paycheck and that was his pursuit of happiness then he is a total idiot…”

rookieNYC… I have read a lot of your posts and the thing I get about you is that your a go getter, intelligent and a hard worker. I believe that your goals are probably much higher than most people’s goals, but does that make someone an idiot because their goal is to live paycheck to paycheck? I don’t think so. It’s all in what you want and it seems to me like you want it all… GOOD FOR YOU!! I hope you get it! But not everybody thinks like that man…not everybody is cut out for that.

A huge portion of the population is just lazy

Truer words were never spoken!

but does that make someone an idiot because their goal is to live paycheck to paycheck?

No, we need millions of worker bees in this country and I’m grateful that he’s willing to do it. Moreover, someone’s got to drink all that beer; eat all those potato chips; buy those big screen tvs, and love the bar hags! More importantly, we need all those lifelong tenants!!!

Mike

Jared,
Yes you have me pegged …You do ,no lie…But I should elaborate on this individual a little more…This a friend who bothered me all the time with the dreamer speeches and if I could show him how to make money and he gave me the song and dance on how bad he wanted it…

In the end you are right Jared…This lifestyle isn’t for everyone…I just can’t stand when I have to hear how money isn’t important etc…That line to me is just a cop out to stay relegated to living paycheck to paycheck…Those people shouldn’t judge the hard workers of this world and undermine our drive…

Boiler room quote…They say money can’t buy happiness? Look at the ****ing smile on my face. Ear to ear, baby.

Boiler room quote…Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn’t ****ing have any.

Living paycheck to paycheck is not a goal. You don’t set a goal to buy a car you already own. You are talking about people who might be happy with what they have. Ask any of them if they would like to be rich, majority of them want to (who do you think buys lotto tickets?).

90% of the population does not know how to set goals or how to acocmplish them. 2% of the population already making over $200k, 5% already making over $120k, 10% already living comfortabe life due to jobs, the rest of the 90% complain about having to pay taxes and why the rich gets richer.

Here is one for you… I think anyone living below certain income level should not be allowed to vote, period. If you are not successful at a personal level, I certainly don’t want you to contribute to who decide to govern me.
