Would like some input...

Hello, everyone! First post, but I have been reading for about 6+ months!

We have been very interested in investing (mostly rehabbing) for some time, but have not had the chance to step in yet. We have had some setbacks as far as credit. So, I am getting my real estate license to at least begin networking, and get my foot in the real estate door.

I have heard mixed reviews on the forums about real estate agents. My plan is not to just make commissions for a broker, but learn to find properties for other investors, and begin to invest myself. Do you feel that this is a waste of time or can this truly prove valuable for me?

Also, I have read the list of REI clubs for my state (MO.), and there are none listed for my city (Springfield). If there is anyone that is in the area and knows of a good one, please let me know! If not, maybe I’ll just have to start one…:slight_smile:

Thanks ahead of time.

Jen

The mixed reviews are due to the fact EVERYONE nowadays has an opinion, and regardless of whether they’re experienced or not…they’re more than happy to give you their viewpoint.

If you’re interested in investing…getting a real estate license is an excellent idea, however, it might be helpful to keep things in perspective;

In the state in which I reside…19% of those who obtain their license renew their license @ the first two year requirement period. Of those 19%…only 20% make enough to support a family.

It’s a well proven track to success in real estate investing. It’s certainly not a guarantee and as Infowell points out many new agents fail. If you get your license, you will be held to a higher standard in how you conduct your investing business. I would encourage you to get with a solid company, join a team that works with investors and start finding properties. I’m a big fan of this approach because it worked for me. Been in real estate 17 years. I’m with REMAX. I work almost exclusively with investors from all over the country and I’m also very active in my own residential real estate aquisitions.
Good luck.
