Where to gather time-series data about avg. or median rent per unit?

I am looking for time-series/historical data about average or median rent per unit in NYC… could anybody please kindly give me some pointers?

I could find the current average or median rent per unit online, but I just couldn’t find the historical numbers for the past a few years…

Why do you care?

The current rental rates are what you need to set your rent.
Market rent is what your unit will rent for today.
