I am curious to see how you all are using the back side of the business card. Do you print any message, such as, we buy any house in condition, or we buy houses with owners in foreclosure, divorse etc? Just wondering if the that empty space can be put to good use.
Business cards won’t get you much. The primary purpose is to give someone your name and phone number so they can remember who you are. You can spend the money on printing the back but in my opinion the additional cash would be better spent on real advertising.
I used to be a graphic designer in my early days and what we usually advise our clients is to use the `backside’ of namecards. Our rational was that people tend to flip the namecards to see what’s behind when presented to them during a conversation. And also when your card is on their desk or any soft surface, one would notice and take interest in what’s being written on a card even though its on the flipside. To make sure clients does not ignore them its best to put a plain solid color at the back of it…
Business Cards are Golden when given to the right people. I use the back to explain more about what I do and ensure it is targeted to the client that I’m looking to work with. To me, just leaving it blank is wasting space. Why not take advantage of it. The price to get something on the back isn’t much more.
Just like you said, it’s good WRITING space. I own an advertising agency and have many large national clients. They also just use the front and it isn’t because they are cheap skates. Ads sell products, business cards are equivalent to you writing your name and contact info down on a piece of paper. It’s just a neat and professional way of doing this. Business cards do not “sell” products. If they call you back it is due to YOUR meeting with them and the fact that they LIKED YOU. NOT because of the card.
Hence, their is no need to reinvent the wheel when it has already been developed.
how about you print a 100 dollar bill at the back of the card…who would not be interested in a 100 dollar bill anyway
I would look at it, instantly recognize an unprofessional amateur and think this guy’s a joke.
Thanks for your suggestions folks. It helps to get different perspectives.
I second lamar’s recommendation. The primary marketing reason for business cards is to motivate someone to call you, or recommend someone they know to call you.
The main question they have is “who is this person/company and how would they solve my problem.” Giving them a name and a “we buy houses” title is ok, but not enough. What else can you tell them to tip them over and have them call you?
As far as the 100 dollar bills, they have their place in marketing but not a replacement to business cards. They are nice attention grabbers, clip one to the top of your sales letter and have a message in it to support your sales letter for example. They do look all cool and nice to have, but we’re not trying to impress them. We want them to call.
What you say on the back of your business card or the dollar bill thing highly depends on who are you trying to target, and who are you giving the card to. Keep in mind that business cards are not substitute to marketing. They are “left behind” type pieces.
I thought you left the back blank so you could write your telephone number or the number of the Hot babe at the bar on it… What was I thinking…
I used to, but then I started noticing that they all had the same phone number! 555-1212
