Good evening all,
How do you all manage your day job (if you have one still) and a family with three little ones and still have time over for REI?
I am desperatly trying but it feels like there is not enough hours in the day…

Get comfortable with it. If you’re going to succeed, it will require several years of significant sacrifice. However, when you are finally FREE, it will have been well worth it.
Good Luck,
Mike
Set aside a certain time frame a day for REI. Treat it like a paying part time job that you can do from home. If you have an office at home it is easier, if not let the family know that from 9-10PM 5 days a week your at work for yourself learning REI so the family will have a more comfortable life down the road. Your family should not distrub you during that time frame unless it is a real emergency.
Another thing is try and get up 1 hr eariler each day and spend time on that, or cut out one of those TV shows you enjoy so much and just TiVO it.
You can find time … Just remember it takes time to make money in this business… this is not a get rich scheme like it was when the market was rehot and you can buy and sell for 20% more in 2 months…
Thanks to both of you,
It is just what I needed to hear :), I am setting aside 1 hour per night reading up on everything I can about rei. I am fully aware that there is NO get rich quick schemes that work. If they work why aren’t more people rich???
I find this forum very useful and I appreciate the occassional kick in the rear to keep me on track. I am determined to one day have the lifestyle of Mike (PropertyManager)…
You never seem to have enough time to get things done. We are all only given so much and that is it. You can’t make more time but you can leverage it and use yours more effectively. I would be glad to send you some information about the system I use to get more done in a day than I used to get done in a week. I do not want to spam this form so send me an email and I will send you info.
Dick,
Why don’t you post your system for all of us? I only work 3-4 days a week now (3-4 hours per day), but if you could show me how to do that in one day, that would be great! The only problem is that I don’t want to just sit around the house every day, so I guess I could use those extra days to be a greeter at WalMart. However, I think you’re pulling my leg. I don’t think I can fix a toilet any faster than I’m doing it now.

Real estate dosen’t take much time at all. Right now all I do is go to the post office to pick up my rent checks every month and pay mortgages. When I have a project (new property or move out) I use labor and sub contractors mostly, but instead of flipping channels when you get home, just go over to the project until it is finished.
Isn’t time management a pain…
When you begin you have that day job and now your trying to learn the new job… Then there is family and friends to consider not mentioning yourself…
Like one of the other posters indicated it is all worth it…
I read once that an effective time management system was built around the three groups of income related activities…
-
Paper work/Busy work — To be done when nothing else can be (Early or late hours) can also be hired out to a transaction coordinator or Realtor assistant for about 250-350 a file side…
-
Prospecting — A set time when you’re able to consistently make prospecting appointments (most important task, these are high impact hours) through non sweat marketing, this task can be curtailed a little if you have money…
-
Sales — between 1 and 2 (Lower impact hours but extremely important tasks)… The key for me was that I wanted to make 3 appointments per day at 10am 2pm and 4pm … #3 was all I like doing…
No matter how much time you have, just break your tasks down into these three groups.
Good Luck
