Hey guys. Been trying to get ahold of the list of condemned properties in my county. Well after a few weeks of :banghead I finally got through to the person who provides the list. She said she’d need to fax me a Freedom Of Information form for me to fill out & return, then I simply pay $4 and the list is mine. Fine, no problem.
The form asks me the standard stuff (my name, ph#, etc) but it also asks “REASON FOR REQUEST.” Here’s my question - what do I say? Can/will they turn me down if I say that I’m a real estate investor looking to buy these houses? How should I word it? Has anyone filled out one before, and what did you put down? I don’t want to blow it…this is a golden list.

this can be very lucrative for you, but you have to sift through a bunch of bad houses to get the good ones. You’ll figure it out soon enough.
What I would say on there is that you want to improve properties and make the neighborhood safe.
what I like about these properties is that many times you’ll find that there are no mortgages on them.
here’s why: a Bank will do what it takes to protect their collateral. They won’t let the city take back a property they have a mortgage on without stepping in and taking care of the house, taxes, insurance etc.

I googled “condemned real property” & my county. Then just started calling the bureaucrats til I got to the person I needed.
It is completely unconscionable that they are requiring anything but a few dollars for copy costs…and they wonder why people no longer have any respect for city hall.
REASON FOR REQUEST: I want to know what properties are on the list.
That is all they need to know.
