I would define a Master as someone who has become rich or wealthy through real estate. Someone who’s name is synonymous with REI would be a guru. I’m convinced that many of the so-called “gurus” couldn’t run a real estate business if it was given to them, although many of them are very good at fleecing newbies for every ounce of available cash and credit they have left (all in search of a “secret” that doesn’t exist).
Yes! Very well put. I would add a wee little bit though. Don’t you think that someone starting out should get one of these courses to get them familiar with some of the terms and strategies needed to advance their REI career? I think you and I both stated that we purchased and reviewed C. Sheets tirelessly in the beginning.
Actually a Guru probably is wealthy selling his overhyped, simplistic crap vicariously through wanna be/newbie REI’s. They may never have even bought a single property. Anyway, I’m a newbie hoping to elevate a notch within 6 months.

I’m talking about Blixseth/Trump/Ho type of synonymous, not the Kiyosaki/[insert favorite guru here] type of synonymous. I should clarify eventually I suppose. Bit busy working on my NoD list to make this too long though>.<

Still a newbie. Until you’ve done it, you don’t know jack squat. Case in point: People read cooking. Does that mean they’re chefs? Many taste buds would vigorously dissent.
Well, by process of elimination, my name is not synomous with REI and I certainly don’t have a product to sell so master/guru status is out.
I don’t do mentoring, so I have never taught a newbie to intermediate. Posting on this website is as close to teaching as it gets, but I never know if anyone pays attention. There is a lot I don’t know, and would never hold myself out as an expert – experienced maybe, but certainly not an expert.
I am a buy and hold guy and have never done anything else. I am aware of other investing strategies but have never used them.
I have done a few deals, made my mistakes along the way, and have still managed to make enough money over the years to have a seven figure net worth. I guess that makes me a rookie.
You sell yourself way to short, Dave T. I think I can safely say that anyone that has read most/all of the posts on this site, has been GREATLY mentored by you!
Well, it’s hard to say… I have two properties. One is just dirt that is worth more than I paid for it. One is a rental property that is BBE (barely breaking even) and is worth more than I have in it.
I haven’t “made a profit” yet, because I haven’t realized the profit or loss via sale.
Wannabe-newbie…I haven’t done any deals yet, but I work hard everyday reading the daily newspaper, listening to the news, talking to my realtor, looking at Realtytrac, reading this site at least 3 hours a day and reading various book from my library.
So far I’ve read and listened to Armondo Montalongo’s program which has taught me that money is everywhere and that anyone who is willing to work hard everyday can do it!!! It has taught me the fundamentals to real estate investing. I’ve read 4 other books ranging from psychology to exit strategys involved with real estate i’m hoping to do 4-6 properties this year
What’s that supposed to mean Keith? I enjoyed Armondo’s program. He does a great job walking you through the steps that he uses on every deal. He gets you mentally prepared for the real world. Have you ever read it or any gurus program? if you’d like i can send it to you. I’m sure you’re a very successful REI and i enjoy reading most of your posts and hopefully one day i’ll be answering all your questions and give you encouragement along the way.
