I think there should be some type of safety net for HARD WORKING PEOPLE....Not for GENERATIONS of LOSERS. 2 years AT THE MOST and your CUT OFF.

It will take an absolute COLLAPSE of our economy and our government to ever implement this. I agree with your suggestion - a safety net for hard working people and absolutely NOTHING for the lazy. However, without a real CRISIS, the socialist government we have been developing over the past 70 years will never cut people off. Could you imagine any politician saying today that we should cut off Section 8, healthcare, and welfare for the MILLIONS of lazy deadbeats in our country? They would be absolutely DESTROYED by the wacko left media. However, after the economy and/or country collapses, that will be a very rational thing to do. In fact, it’s the ONLY way to get this country back on track.

Here’s how you create CHANGE…You shut OFF the TV and COMPUTER and get off your @ss and DO SOMETHING.

I’ve walked neighborhoods on weekends for Politicians I support, I’ve raised money for them, I manned PHONE BANKS for them, I’ve banged signs into front yards for them, I’ve been at their campaign head quarters on election night and waited for the results to come in. But that’s WORK…I guess I could have sat home on my @ss and watched it all on TV. I LEARNED a LOT for these experiences…It TEMPERS your thinking because WIN or LOSE you learn to respect the PROCESS. It’s b@ll breaking work running for ANY office. I respect the effort it takes to even mount a campaign.

Positive went to a “TEA PARTY”…WOW…What DEVOTION to your cause. Let’s see…you parked your car…walked to a location and stood there and listened to other people who actually ORGANIZED THIS!! ( in other words they DID something)

Do me a favor…BUY SOME REAL ESTATE…RUN for an elected office…Even if you “AREN’T WIRED THAT WAY” TRY IT…For someone who talks in such BOLD STROKES…The MINUTE someone suggests actually putting yourself out there…NOPE…Can’t do it…Not wired that way…THAT IS BS!!! Your inaccurate portrayal of my political involvements and attempts at denegrating me as someone who doesn’t “do” things is weak… The difference between you and me FDJake is I don’t need to keep telling everyone how “smart” I am, or how much money I make, or what I do to support my political beliefs, wearing it all on my sleeve. If a resume is really what you need to feel better, I will provide you with one, but we both know it’s just another straw man, and non-answer, and a weak on at that.

As a matter of fact, this last political cycle was my busiest, as I KNEW Obama was BS’ing people, and had EVERY plan to lead us farther into the path of socialism, all geared up by a DEMOCRAT Congress (yes, THEY write the checks), who had already been spending out of control since 2006. The path I’ve chosen beyond vocation is to work with kids, in church (helping to fix up communities, food banks, etc.), Scouts, local-causes… I am a behind the scenes kind of guy, but am QUITE involved putting my money where my mouth is… a Tea Party was NOT a beginning but PART of the journey… so get off your high horse, and quit denegrating what other people do as a distraction to your non-answers… You’re “smart” remember? Stop talking about it and prove it by responding to what people are posting…

Not that it’s a qualification for a POLITICAL THREAD, but I have bought real estate investment property that I am working on now, as well as, helping my brother and sister on two houses they bought. I bought it based on advice on this site… Bought the house for $8k, from a realtor in another state who bought it online as an investment, comps are $75-$85K on the same street, and I am putting $30K into it. Rents in the area go for $600-$725, and it is only 1 1/2 miles from a major university in my state, with a park around the corner. I took my time on the first one to find the right circumstance, so I could buy it cash. I’ll continue forward at my own pace, and if I need advice on that, I would be a fool not ask for it from you and others on this site, but when it comes to politics, that’s another matter…

As far as “getting off my a$$” goes… you have no idea what I do, what I am involved in, but I certainly don’t live my life on FDJakes definition of “B@LLS”… But I am certainly not some hermit sitting at a computer who doesn’t “do” anything, and your assumptions are arrogant at best…

What we know is that FDJAke KNEW IN ADVANCE our current fianancial mess, and how many articles did you write, how many people did you warn publicly other than on a website or two, how did you put your “B@LLS” to work in getting this prescient information out? You are a real estate and auto industry EXPERT, with lots of money, and “smart” to boot… Think of the lives and fortunes you could have saved. after all, YOU KNEW…

Sucks having what you espouse pointed right back at you… The more you go off on these personal attack tangents INSTEAD of addressing the actual posts, the more desparate it looks…

The Tea Parties were exactly what people NEED to be involved in… PEOPLE all across the country (who were not paid or bussed in) doing something to protest what is happening to our country, and the out of control spending…

I don’t think that’s quite fair. Just because he hasn’t bought 100 properties yet or hasn’t run for office, doesn’t mean he’s just talking. In fact, I think that volunteering with the Boy Scouts and being involved in the local area through Church are excellent ways to be involved and is certainly more than 95% of Americans are doing. I also think that Positive did things right and got a good deal on his first real estate investment. He’s just getting started in real estate and I think taking your time and doing things right is a good thing. That certainly puts him far ahead of the vast majority of newbies who fail because they went to fast and didn’t know what they were doing!

Speaking personally, I could never run for office, but yet I’ve done a LOT politically. I would be tarred and feathered if I got up and said that I thought that deadbeats should be allowed to live under a bridge and starve if they were too lazy to work. That’s not politically correct in the USSA (United Socialist States of America) and not conducive to being elected. On the other hand, I contribute and work for candidates I like. I have led protests against the city and county on some critical issues (and won). I write letters to the editor. I attend and speak out at city council meetings. I call my local, state, and national elected officials to give them my advice and tell them what a piece of crap they are when they do something stupid. And YES, I attended a tea party and will do so again!

The point is that Positive is a DOER, and that certainly isn’t negated just because he hasn’t run for office. In addition, even if he hasn’t been politically active in the past, then attending a tea party is a good start!

FDJake, you are currently posting to a political thread… Rehabbing, Landlording is the link to the left… you don’t have to participate in a political thread if you choose not to, but complaining about hearing grievances about politics and political persuasion in a political thread is a bit odd. If we were doing it over in Rehabbing, Landlording, then I could see your point…, I can tell you that these political threads/blogs, etc. were a big factor in the Tea Parties… One of the most frustrating things for me, is the lack of knowledge of our history…

We are a Representative Republic, and one of the ways TO make changes is by hashing things out and arguing points with people you disagree with… online and offline, changing minds in the process… I can tell you the people that I spoke with on different forums before the election, the majority of them are saying that they were mislead by Obama… they see it now, and some are down-right bitter about it, but they were so caught up in the historical nature and the “hope” theme, that they let it blind them to what this guys record SHOWED what he would do.

When I would talk to people at town meetings who were going to vote for Obama (the gaggle that follows out on the sidewalk at the end of each meeting), I would ask them what in his record makes you think he is going to follow through on his promises? They said he was about fiscal discipline, and yet he is spending more than all other Presidents… COMBINED!

In addition, it’s not the first time I’ve been involved in politics… we all have different stages in our life, and although I was involved in politic campaigning in the past, I was particularly active this time. I will probably be just as active in the next cycle as I want to see the Tea Parties make an impact.

I would argue that because you have the means, you are more in a position to run for office, as it would not affect your ability to provide for your family…

I don’t spend 90% of my time “crying” about politics… I don’t even know how you came up with that percentage… Kinda like a made up number to create an incorrect impression…

Wow, I just spent about an hour catching up on this thread. Great points from Mike, Pete, and Positive outlook.

Pete, you hit the nail on the head with running for office instead of arguing on an internet forum. I really want to run for city council here in Raleigh, but I’m not too optimistic, I’m pretty sure they have me labeled as dirty slumlord down there. But I’ll try someday, maybe when I’m a little older.

About the tea party:
We can protest all we want about TAXES at these tea parties. I was proud to be a part of this. But you have to remember, when higher taxes are unpopular, the government just prints the money instead of taxing and loots us through the hidden taxation called INFLATION. You know, that silent one with no representation?? Nobody can currently audit the Federal Reserve, and since they stopped publishing M3 data, very few people really know how much they are printing, and those who do aren’t talking. If your not familiar, read over Ron Paul’s HR1207 bill, and write or call your congressman if he isn’t on the cosponsors list.

I would love to believe that a real reformer such as Ron Paul could get elected. Unfortunately the reality of it is that those of us that are really pissed and realize what kind of revolutionary change is needed in this country are in the extreme minority right now. The other 90% of the country would rather just continue to b*tch and moan and point fingers, wallowing in their own selfpity and blaming everyone but themselves for the mess.
That being said, I guess we can’t afford to let our country continue to go to hell in a handbasket without a real fight.
