Tax question on Qualified Real Estate Activities

In Diane Kennedy’s book Real Estate Loopholes she talks about what it takes to be a qualified Real Estate Professional to claim taxes. She has a list of things that quailify, but doesn’t list education or time starting the business. Do these activities qualify as hours towards being a Real Estate Profesional

amasters,
I really don’t know the answers to your question, but the post looked lonely without a response.

My guess is that neither education nor start-up time would be counted in the hours required category. I would think there are other items on the list that would be easier to do to qualify?

I haven’t read the book yet. If you have a ready reference, perhaps you could list the activities and time requirements needed so others could benefit?

Just a thought…
Thanks.
