Structural engineering certificate

Hey everyone,

I’m in the process of closing on a double wide in Sneads Ferry NC and my lender is insisting on getting a structural engineering certificate to validate how the unit is attached to the foundation. Has anyone ever heard of this? My re agent never has, nor has anyone in her office. We’ve had a home inspection and an appraisal. This is a new one on the appraiser too.

Am I being taken for a ride?

Thanks,
MIke

No, this is an actual condition that many lenders have on manufactured homes especially if it is FHA. You need to call a foundation company and explain to them what you need. They can send someone out to do it for you. Unfortunately you will have to pay for it. :frowning:

Thanks,

I really appreciate the info. My lender told me it was REQUIRED, but not by them. She said everyone had to do it. there was a big ‘discussion’ between her and my re agent, who said I was being taken advantage of and suggested I get a new lender…which I may do.

Thanks again.
Mike
