Separate water bills?

Out of curiosity, is there a way to accurately charge tenants for water usage separately? They pay their own gas, electric, phone and cable bills but there is only one water meter on the main. Any help is appreciated. Thanks and take care.


You could base the percentage off the ratio of square footage from one unit to the next or the number of people living in each of the units. If I was one of your tenants, I would argue that neither of those methods are really accurate. Your water bill probably isn’t that much. I would just build some of that cost into the rent and advertise that you supply water for the units.

We generally just pay the water for our units, but some of our managed properties’ owners don’t like to offer that. If we don’t pay it, we split it up based on how many people are living in each unit.
