I have a friend who had to move to South Texas to care for his parents. He wants to sell his home he left behind in Dallas as a rental because he believes he won’t be coming back anymore. He owns it free and clear. Is there a way I can help him sell his home without the need of him coming into town? He’s willing to give me Power of Attorney but if he does can I still make money for myself from this deal? He has given me names of potential buyers (they’ve asked him to contact them if he decided to sell). He wants me to help him sell it and in process allowing me to make some money for my troubles. Can he give me a warranty deed, I find a buyer and have a contract signed then after closing give my friend his selling price? If so how would I set that up? Can I get him to sign a contract between the two of us and then find a buyer and have the new buyer sign contract between them and me? How exactly can we do this? I want to do this the right and legal way. I want to help him out but also want to make a little money. My friend is aware of this and agrees. We just don’t know how to go about it. He is willing to come into the city for closing if necessary, but would prefer to do so if possible in South Texas. All advice will be appreciated.
There are numerous legal ways to do it, including using a power of attorney, a problem could arise because of a conflict of interest if your friend turned on you however. Whatever you do lay out absolutely EVERYTHING in writing before you do a thing. People…Even Friends can do very unfriendly things when it comes to money
ericmedem, if possible could you elaborate how can go about doing a transaction that could work for this situation. Any others please respond and elaborate as well if have any advice. Thank you.
