Runaway Inflation Raises Its Ugly Head AGAIN!

I received another shock today. A week ago, I was shocked when a 10 piece McNuggets went up by 25%! That was bad, but today’s shock was absolutely ridiculous. Today, as I was minding my own business working on a rental, I received a call from my friendly local newspaper. They informed me that my little “For Rent” ad in the newspaper was going up in price from $134 per month TO $260 per month! That’s a 94% increase!!! I thought the $134 price was outrageous and I think the new $260 price is ROBBERY! After careful thought and consideration, I politely told the newspaper what they could do with my ad!

Inflation is one thing, but prices doubling - THAT’S RIDICULOUS!

Now, I’ve got to find another way to advertise. I’m thinking about putting billboards on some of my apartment buildings.

Mike

I used to pay $0.86 for gallon of gas in 1997… I pais $4.20 this morning… used to fill my car for $23, now $75. I fill it 5 to 6 times a month…

Our paper charges $3/line/day.

Fadi,

If you think you are the only one effected by gas prices, the oldest profession in the world is having a tough time with the current gas prices.

Mike,

With regard to making your apt blgs into billboards, something I’ve done with multi’s is get a vinyl banner with some kind of grabber headline and left it up for a longer than necessary period of time (to help build a tenant interest list…to place in other properties of mine or sell as leads to other landlords if placed). On average I’ve spent $250 for a pretty large vinyl banner - about the same price as your delightfully new priced ad in the local paper.

I’ve mostly been bent out of shape by the price of eggs, but advertising? Who would have thought! It’s an outrage! :bs

Good luck…I hope all local landlords protest that paper’s increase!

And to imagine, you moan and groan about the prospect of a Democrat being President and raising taxes. Look what your beloved Republicans are doing to your wallet. Just because it’s not called a tax, doesn’t mean it’s not a form of tax. By the way Chick-Fil-A raised their prices too.

And to imagine, you moan and groan about the prospect of a Democrat being President and raising taxes. Look what your beloved Republicans are doing to your wallet.

It’s not the prospect of a Democrat being President that concerns me, it’s the prospect of a SOCIALIST that worries me. BTW, I won’t vote for McCain either - he’s certainly no conservative (he’s a borderline socialist if you ask me). Finally, I don’t love the Republicans - in fact, I’ve said many times that I think President Bush has done a HORRIBLE job with government spending, especially the new Medicare Drug Program.

You do understand that the newspaper ad rate increase is not a tax. The unprecedented tax hike that Osama is proposing is on top of the inflation and will finish destroying a once great nation. UGH!

Mike

$0.86 a gallon. Do you mean 1967???

=)

Mike, I think you would make an excellent Libertarian.

I enlisted in the Navy in 1997. In 1998, I remember being stationed at Naval Weapons Station Charleston, SC and paying $.81/gal.

In other news…I’m sure glad our property is in a small town. I can put a pretty descriptive ad in the paper for about $10-12/week.

Mike, I think you would make an excellent Libertarian.

Sign me up! Right now, I’m registered as a Democrat after voting for Billary in operation Chaos. However, I can’t hold my nose tight enough to vote for McCain and I certainly couldn’t vote for a socialist like Osama. Libertarian - that has a nice ring to it!

Mike

a socialist like Osama

What are you trying to say every time you type “Osama”?

I’m saying that he will do more damage to the United States with his Socialist Agenda than 1,000 Osama Bin Ladens. I also question where his loyalties reside. This is the guy that had a mentor who was a wacko “black liberation” preacher (here in Ohio everyone IS already free, including blacks). Well, that’s not really true - the Socialists have already enslaved millions of low income people in poverty with their government handouts, welfare, food stamps, Section 8 and other programs that promote laziness. Why have they done this? All for the price of a vote.

This is a guy who very publicly refused to wear a flag lapel pin for a long time. This is a guy who won’t put his hand over his heart during the Pledge. This is a guy whose wife said she was proud of this country for the first time in her lifetime.

This is also a guy who wants to appease our enemies. This is a guy who promises to socialize medicine; take profits from profitable businesses like oil and pharma; initiate a cap and trade system for CO2 which will raise gas prices by ANOTHER $1.50 per gallon; wants to eliminate nuclear weapons from the earth (I’m sure Iran will cooperate); has vowed to not develop space based weapons (even though our enemies are doing so). I could go on and on, but Barack Hussein is DANGEROUS and WILL literally destroy this country. He is a dream candidate is you’re Al Qaeda, Iran, or any of our other enemies! Ironically, the mere chance that he will become President will force a war with Iran before the election. Israel MUST attack Iran’s nuclear facilities if they want to survive. Israel MUST attack while they still have the support of the US Government, which means that this must happen before the election.

In addition, he is an enemy to business and anyone that strives to be successful. His grand idea is to tax the American Population into oblivion so that he can promote his socialist agenda. What do you think is going to happen to the few jobs we have left when Osama becomes President. Any business that can move overseas will do so. As the economy deteriorates even further, the economy will collapse. That’s what always happens to socialism.

Mike

I think the economy will get better when Obama gets into office.

But, you are absolutely right Mike, as Obama will have nothing to do with it.

Why?

a) Many things in this world at a global or national level, even the economy, are slow moving. Things tend to move forward more slowly than they go backward. Anyway huge tax benefits that were put in place by the Republican congress (and Bush) are already helping investors & entrepreneurs. I know, as I am one of them. I am far more economically successful now than I was just a few years ago. And I’m going to continue to get richer because of these benefits. This will help me expand, hire more Democrats and (unfortunately) pay more taxes in the future & fatten the government pot…just about the time Obama gets the executive seat. E.G. An example of this is how the section 179 accelerated depreciation cap has been greatly raised. Boy, talking a great opportunity to buy incoming producing assets. If you make $200k in AGI in 2008, put $100k into more assets (laundromat equipment, coke & snack machines, carpet cleaning equipment to expand your carpet cleaning business, tools or equipment that you can rent out, whatever else you can think of) — you only owe taxes on $100k in income. And you’ve set yourself up to make more money next year assuming you have the business system in place to use those assets, and you’ve helped the economy. As you can imagine that’s my favorite part of the tax code right now. LOL!!!

b) The real estate market is in turmoil in California and Florida right now, and like it or not it is either literally or (like where I am in the midwest) psychologically (thanks to the mass media) affecting the average American. They say the economy stinks, and in many places it does. That too has little or nothing to do with George Bush or the Republicans, but actually the Fed and an over hyped real estate market, but in the end they’ll get the blame and Obama will be heralded like a God for “saving the economy”…when all he did was move into the executive office when the economy is just getting back on its feet automatically. Think of the Gray Davis story in California. =)

c) His socialistic actions like giving free healthcare and other benefits to all Americans will be viewed by the majority as a great thing. To you & me, who can afford healthcare, it’s a horrid idea. It’s a free handout for doing nothing!!! However he again will get viewed as saving poor people from having to spend money….and will make them happy.

d) The value of the dollar will eventually go up. This is America, it is inevitable. This in turn will cause commodities to be more reasonably priced and drive down the cost of oil. It’s beyond the control of the average president and more controlled by the Fed and economic/market conditions, yet again Obama will get credit for it by Joe Nieve.

WOW… this thread went from a newspaper ad increase of 100% to vote for NONE OF THE ABOVE (LOL)

Well in SoFl, I am happy with 260 a month on a ad but I have found you can actually bargin with the newspaper when the renewals come up and get a better price (your still dealing with a salesperson)
Gas… Hell I wish it go down. I love my boating and since my boat sits in a Marina since I do not want to waste 30mins waiting to launch my boat and 30min when I get back to get it on a trailer I decide to pay $300 a month for dock space. Well that means I need to fill up on the Florida Intercoastal Waterways which means as of Saturaday a cost of $5.32 per gal and well open up the boat on the ocean and your getting only 3 miles per gal and umm…a typical 5 hr day on the water cost me $150bucks to $175 bucks now and I go out twice a week. So anything to get gas down even $1 I am all for.

As for Unverisal Healthcare. We all hear how other countries have it. But they never talk about what it covers. WHY?? Its for the common cold and get this… THERE is NO CURE for that. Why waste a trip to the doctor when you can goto local RX and get something. Unverisal Healthcare in Europe does not cover surgeries, cancer, transplants, etc. You need to get secondary coverages which are just as expensive here. BTW…you want it you will see your taxes increase even more. As a world leader we have one of the lowest income tax base rates in the world since we are not taking care of everyone in the USA. And why should we. Cut Section 8 (yes it will suck for us landlords)cut food stamps, cut free healthcare, disability needs to be left for people really disabiled, not a doctor claiming it for an extra few bucks. This will force the poor to work. I deal with the poverty people daily and trust me, they live better than middle class except for the housing and even many of them are fine as you get lucky with a good area. I am not putting nicer homes in middle class areas on section 8 because the rates are better and guarenteed. we have high unemployement becauuse people see it is better to abuse the system and get free money and be lazy over working for someone.

As one of my customers told me yesterday when I went to collect money from him on a owner financed home that he is late on.
His words to me “I am 40 yrs old, 6 kids, 4 baby momma’s, 3 jobs, 100 hour work week and a $2000 mortgage” All I can give you is $1600 this month please take it. My reply, I take it and you have 7 days to give me $600 or I start eviction process,I didnt tell you to screw half the neighborhood and well I am straight so your not gonna screw me today, tomorrow, and next month.

AMEN…

What exactly is a “baby momma” that your tenant referred to? I ran it through the Internet ghetto translator, and it came out as “my six kids come from four different women”. LOL!!! Wow. How much do you want to bet he doesn’t know what the word “prophylactic” means.

…His words to me “I am 40 yrs old, 6 kids, 4 baby momma’s, 3 jobs, 100 hour work week and a $2000 mortgage”

Sorry… I committed a typo… It is a Babies Momma meaning they had a kid with the lady but that is all and they have acknowledged it is theirs.
In SoFL the ghetto is alittle behind with some things like they still wear pants way below the ass…

DO you know why if your born in the mid 80’s your referred to as Generation Y??? It is because they wear pants so low your butt crack shows and looks like a Y…
