Okay, I was driving through a really ‘rough’ part of Dallas yesterday, and I noticed something strange. Someone put on a new roof…and it was all white! It looked like some creative [or not that creative, actually] homeowner came along and sprayed white foam all over his/her roof to avoid going through the cost of putting on new shingles. It looks just like snow, but obviously it isn’t considering it was 90 degrees yesterday. I think this is insulation foam. LOL!! Talking ghetto quality.
I’ve seen similar in Florida. I believe it is a type of spray on expanding foam. Possibly with a hardened skin to provide durability. It looks a little odd compared to traditional roofing.
We have this on our school. ( way out in the country in Montana ) . Yes, it is foam and is used to roof, seal, and insulate the metal roof instead of trying to work on the inside. It has worked very well here, but then most of year we have snow on the roof anyway! :biggrin
On a school roof that’s OK. Most schools have a flat roof anyway - at least in Texas. However this is an angled house that once had [probably still has] shingles on it. And in a neighborhood of houses that have regular shingles on them…well…
I’ve seen 110+ here as well as -40 F with a big wind blowing. They said it was
-75 to -90 below windchill! our power also went out that night. That was an experience.
