replacing cracked driveway

I have a driveway with severe cracks in it, and I am thinking about replacing it. I got an estimate for about 3-3.50 dollars/sqf for everything and was wondering if any of you out there have any experience with this kind of things.

Does that price include demo and removal of the old cement?

Just how bad is this driveway? Can you asphalt directly over it as opposed to replacing?

Concrete work is brutal and I personally don’t recommend it to anyone. Demolition of concrete is even worse than laying it, so you can guess how I feel about that! While working with concrete definitely isnt rocket science, I’d leave it to the pros as there are subtle things that must be perfect or you get what you have now… a cracked driveway.

xx,

$3.00 - 3.50/sq ft is about the going rate here, too. If it includes demolition, forming, pouring, and clean-up, that quote is very much in the right ballpark.

…and VU is right → while it’s not rocket science, if you have little or no experience, it’s harder than it looks, has lots of steps, and is easy to screw up…leave it to the pros!

Get the deal in writing so you know what’s included and what’s not!

I just got a written quote for 5440.00 with EVERYTHING included. Still, seems more than I expected. I will look for other budget friendly alternatives, maybe just focus on the area most damaged.

How freakin’ big is this driveway??? Sounds like someone paved the front lawn!

Most of my driveways are like about 12’ wide and 25’ long…about 300 sq ft and I can get them done for about $1000 or so…

Either this is a big driveway (like over 1,500 square feet - 30 X 50) or someone is trying to play a quick game of “Who’s your daddy?” with you…

Keith

Normal width is about 12 feet, so at 3.50 a sq foot your driveway would have to be 125 feet long to justify a $5400 price tag.

Give him a break, he may be in California.

Speaking of who’s your daddy, I had a guy just this week quote me $950 to repair a hole in a drywall ceiling tape and float it texture and paint it. The hole was about 6’x8’. He asked me to sign right there accepting his quote and give him $400 to get started.

I told him his materials would run him about $50 (that is if he didn’t already have it in his truck). I also let him know that I had 10 other houses and am getting more and he just let me know who he is.

People will quote you anything.
