Rehab Tip: Stripped Screwholes

If I have a hole in wood that is stripped and will no longer take a screw, I “create” additional wood to give the screw something to grab. I simply take a wooden golf tee and force it into the hole. I gently hammer it in as deep as possible, and then knock the top of the tee off with the hammer. Now I have instant wood to take the screw.

… Or use a bigger screw

Are we talking about bigger screws!!? ;D

Good idea, Annie! I had that happen this weekend with a door hinge on a rental, and wish I would have used this method.

I do the same thing works great, i just add little wood glue to the tee before pounding it in and cutting it flush.

You can also use wooden match sticks…or use your sheetrock knife to cut the corner edge off of a scrap of board.
