Reality of tax deed sales

So has anyone here actually made a good profit (either interest / penalty or profit by resale) by purchasing something via tax deed sale? I’ve read some pessimistic critiques arguing that mortgage companies and institutional investors are generally the only ones who succeed in buying anything of value. I’m happy to work hard and invest the hours of research but only if continuing to do so makes sense…thanks for any input!

If you know your market you can find deals at tax sales. I have found some very profitable deals there.
