Real Estate Seminars waste of time?

What do you feel about real estate investing seminars? - Try asking 10 people randomly and youre likely to get a combination of reactions. For some, seminars offer a good venue for further education especially on topics that are not effectively covered by conventional learning institutions. For others, real estate seminars are simply a big waste of money and time.

To me seminars are a place where you meet the best salesmen in the world. All wanting you to buy their course and continue asking you to buy more. Most don’t teach you enough until they’ve milked you out of thousands. There are exceptions though, like right here. Herbster

I think that the most valuable tid bits I learn at seminars are usually from the participants thinking creatively and participating in the discussion; as well as the networking aspect. I’m actually at a conference this week, and I can’t put a price on the people I’ve met and the things I have learned just from listening to what they are doing.
However I do think that some big name, dominant conventions, that cost a TON of money are a total waste of time. Because the participants are the people that got suckered in by a smooth sales speech, are themselves beginners, and have not as much valuable information or experience to share. ( :s -speaking from personal experience.)
I think the key is finding a topic you are interested in, and finding a speaker who has done it for a long time, and specializes in that area of interest. The speaker must have an immense amount of integrity. Once you find those kind of teachers, once you buy their program you are kind of part of the family, and you can come to almost any of their other events for free. So I think there is a wide range of teachers and speakers out there, and if you find the people that are doing it not because of the money but because of the reward they get from helping someone else become financially independent; you find a gold mine. Even if you got to the same type of event more than once, you get to meet new people every time, so its totally worth it.
If you are interested in Lease-Options- I highly recommend Wendy Patton. I am a huge fan, and am seeking her help in starting my first lease-option deal!

The best part about the seminars is the networking you can do with other attendees.

You can gain more knowledge from these Forums. Select your area of interest and gain knowledge and suppor tfrom those that are doing it now.

Leave your checkbook and credit cards at home. Don’t sign anything.

Go and listen carefully. Then you can come back here and ask what the program is doing. There is no “secret” of success. So lots of people are going to know how to do whatever the program is, and there are people here who will explain it to you for free.

Use the opportunity to network with the other attendees.

I’m in favor of taking advantage any any learning opportunity. Just don’t let anyone dip into your wallet.

I can’t figure out the Kiyosaki disciples. Some of these people are spending thousands to get knowledge you can get free here and other websites like creditboards.com.

I have to say amen to that. Not to talk ill of the dead but these guys don’t even do real estate. Robert K never made a dime off of real estate. He made his money selling books.

When you feel you’re getting nowhere with a seminar, quit. Leave it. Moving closer to success sometimes requires you to take a step back and reevaluate your path; determine whether you’re treading the right way.

Bluemoon, Robert Kiyosaki says in his courses that he controls properties all of the time. Where did you hear he never made a dime off real estate investing?

He made his money off of selling his books. After he made that money he bought some real estate.

He didn’t make money from real estate realize what he had done and then write rich dad poor dad, he made money off of rich dead poor dad and then he bought real esate.

I see, so he didnt start out becoming wealthy by buying/ selling real estate using his other peoples money methods.

Interesting…

I went to a few of the free sales pitch types which were a complete waste of time for me except it gave me the idea of going to seminars and handing out flyers to other investors and wannabe investors while they lined up to register.

Ended up with several bird dogs, wholesalers feeding me deals, and partners in other deals, and buyers for my deals plus business for my brokerage. Seminars were great even if I didn’t attend them. Wish they would hold more of them.

Are you saying Kiyosaki is dead?

Seminars can bring you valuable info, and contacts. I’ve gotten some wonderful leads there. I think though that there are a couple of key things to remember if you attend:

Bring business cards.
Talk to people.
Take Notes.
Talk to more people.

And never ever ever buy anything there.

The gurus always have something you have to have now because the offer expires in 30 seconds. There will be… another offer. Usually what they are offering is something that you could do on your own with a couple of those $20 books at Barnes and Noble anyway.
