Hi,

Could anyone please tell me if you have to have a Real Estate License to own a Property Mangement Company?

In Texas, you have to be licensed and sponsored by a broker to operate as a property manager. Now, you may not have to be yourself, but you can hire property managers who are.

License is not difficult to get. You can get it in couple of months depending on the class schedules.

This is a state issue but most states require people that manage properties for others to have a license.

I believe it depends on the size of the property as in units. But then again, I own my own property mgmt company, but it only manages my properties so no license required expect for my business license.

You need to check with your state dept of professional regulation or an attorney.Most states require you to have a license to manage for others.
