I was wondering if it's a good idea to get a real estate license. It's only $300 for 4 classes. I'm really looking to have a access to the MLS and know how how to write an offer properly. I don't mind paying the money, but I don't know if I have to work for a broker before I can have access to the MLS. Does anyone know what the requiremsnts are for this?
Hey Keith, maybe you can find the best thread with this question in it and put a sticky on it so when the next 18,000 think about asking the question they won’t have to!! :biggrin
All this takes is a search on here to see this question (and responses) literally hundreds of times.
As to requirements, drop by your local friendly neighborhood Realtor’s office and ask. It’ll probably be a real learning experience.
Don’t know where you’re at, state laws vary and all, but generally speaking, yes, you’ll probably have to work for a broker. And they will generally want someone that plans on actually selling property for someone other than themselves because it costs money to keep an office going.
And it doesn’t ONLY cost $300 for the classes. 1st, you have to actually pass. Second, you have to pass the state (and pay for the privilege of taking that exam). Third, if you get that far, that makes you a RE agent, not a Realtor (MLS access). To get that, you have to join the club, which costs more money. Think it’s over? Nope. You also have to take annual “refresher courses” in order to stay licensed. And let’s not forget that that office you have to work for is also going to be charging you something, too, either in reduced commissions, office/desk fees or a combination of both.
See??? Now was that so hard? :biggrin Thanx. That’s all I was looking for. By the way, there are a ton of repeat questions on these boards. I can see if it’s the same person with the same question. But a lot are from newcomers. Why take the time to reply only to say"Look it up yourself" If you don’t wan to answer, don’t. It’s pretty simple. :beer
Because phlemboy, if you’re unable, or unwilling, to do something as simple and easy as hit a search button for a topic that has already been covered 20 times THIS WEEK alone, it’s very unlikely that you’ll have any real success at being self-employed as it takes alot more effort than just hitting search.
The point here is to have a discussion with anyone who wants to. If you don’t want to go over the same subject, just don’t reply. That’s all I’m saying…
A real estate license is a tool to get a job. We are trying to be business owners. We don’t want jobs we want ownership. A real estate license is a distraction to the business.
There are many experienced people here to help you. However, put yourself in their shoes. Would you want to sit down and type the same thing everyday because someone else is too lazy to use the search function?
IMO…if you want help from others you must first learn to help yourself.
Nobody has to type anything if they don’t want to. If you don’t want to respond, you don’t have to. I’m sure just about every subject you can think of has been asked many times before. These are “discussion” forums. Not “look it up yourself forums”. Do you think perhaps there might be someone out there that may want to have a discussion? You won’t know until you ask. If you don’t want to waste your time in a discussion, I suggest you don’t waste your time replying. Nobody’s forcing anyone to reply.
