Anyone know of any videos sort of like “A day in the life of a RE investor” I mean without all the hype, hoopla and fancy production. I mean nitty-gritty, step-by-step daily lessons on video with basically a hand held camera showing what it all entails day to day from getting the morning coffee, turning on the computer, etc… I think there is definately a niche market for this type of training. Most of us are tired of all the “guruspeak”.
We want the raw, un-cut version of this business! >:( ;D
I’m afraid a video of the day in the life of a real investor would be pretty boring. Yesterday, I did some Christmas shopping; showed a rental to a loser with a criminal history; fixed a broken toilet handle; had to make a second trip to plumbing shop to get a new flapper valve for the same toilet; paid some of my huge stack of bills; met with my banker for the financing of a 3 unit I’m buying; and then went to the REIA Christmas party. I was going to sit on the Yacht or go for a spin in the Private Jet, but then I had to fix that toilet! Not exactly like on T.V.!
You already know what a successful investor does everyday because it’s nothing unimaginable. You don’t need to watch a video of them drinking coffee and reading a newspaper. There are no shortcuts to success, it’s nothing more than a progression of steps in the azimuth of your destination. If you know what you want, you can figure out how to get there.
I have a friend that has a real estate program and there is a dvd in it. The dvd is her inspecting a house, then going through it with a contractor, and has the whole process on it. Email me if you want to know about it.
Otherwise I can set up a camera to follow me today. I excercised and drove around a neighborhood today. I also played online chess and am watching the replay of the Giants/Eagles game on NFL network. I wonder who wins…
What I mean is basically a seasoned investor who says “OK, I’m going to purchase a property today”, and shows those steps from searching for the property, to the first phone call, inspection, whatever you do. Certain irrelevant parts would be cut out for sake of time (I didn’t REALLY mean un-cut), but the meat and potatoes of what the investor does from the time he decides to buy to the end result. The good and the bad.
JaredfromIndiana, that’s what I’m looking for. That’s just one part of the process, but that’s basically what I mean. I’ll PM ya, I have a couple more questions for ya too. Thanks.
You seem to be looking for a shortcut that doesn’t exist. You already know how to search for a property, how to call the owner, inspect it (or have it inspected), etc. You already have the knowledge in your brain to become a successful investor. I hope I don’t confuse anyone with the medical terminology, but it’s in the section of the brain called “common sense”.
It’s tough to change your behavior, your habits, and even your personality, but that’s what it’ll take to make you take action. Just do it!
I think what you really are looking for is a business model more so than what a successful investor does, am I correct? Marketing, negotiation, rehabing, and selling are different skills used in the business.
Well, think of it as kind of like a police academy recruit going on a call with a veteran. You see there’s more to the job than just carrying a badge and gun. You learn more from observing real world situations, good and bad.
Real Estate is nothing but a networking business that uses houses as a product to buy and sell. What successful real estate investors do is buy wholesale, and sell retail, or lease for a period of time their product.
If you can learn how to run a business, then it doesnt matter what product you buy and sell, it is all the same. Gurus sell courses on how to do the specifics of buying and selling the houses, but they leave out the business running aspect of it.
What do you do to get the phone to ring?
How do you track your results?
Can you forcast in the future? if so, how far out?
What do you do when you get a phone call?
How do you evaluate the deal?
Can you negotiate a win-win offer?
which forms to fill out?
The closing process?
Managing contractors?
etc.
It is all nothing but a business. Gurus did not wake up one day and started buying 20 houses a year, they built a business around house buying and they operate that business. If you want to see a day in their life, you will notice it is nothing different than any other business. The details that are related to real estate are available in courses.
