What is the best way to go about find a RE accountant in my area?Or is a normal account efficient enough if I’m just starting out?
RE has some issues that are unfamiliar for many CPA’s. Look for one who has a significant number of property-owner clients. Or even better, one who is a RE investor himself.
Ask questions. If he’s offended, he’s not the guy for you. If he doesn’t take the time to talk with and teach you how the tax aspects of your business work, he’s not the guy for you.
Go to a local REI meeting and ask around. There may even be one there :beer
Don’t worry about them being local to you. Mark (mcwagner) is a couple states over from us and we use him.
