What do you all think of a plan to buy a lot and be an owner/builder on a home. Hiring own subcontractors, getting bids for materials and doing as much of the work as possible on your own? This is what I am thinking about getting into. Just with my lot purchase I already have $9,000 in equity. I know that general contractors charge between $20,000- $40,000 mark up depending on house size. Why not be owner/builder and save that money and make it back when you sell it? This is what I am thinking anyway. I plan to go to my local voc training school and learn carpentry so I can do a lot of work myself. I am really excited to start this in the next few years. Just need to save up some $$$ and learn some tricks of the construction trade. ;D
