Offering Free Stuff w/ Purchase of Home

Is there anything wrong (ethically, legally, or otherwise) with offering a buyer free airline tickets or a cruise, etc with the purchase of a home?

Thx,
Uncle D

I always give the Buyer the front door as an added gift… I am just nice that way… I figure they would remember my kindness and refer me to their friends if I did.

Just make certain the lender is aware of the “gift”

As long as the money used to purchase the tickets, etc. is not related to the sale of the property there should be no problems. People often give and receive gifts after a real estate transaction. I personally have received everything from a box of cookies to tickets of various kinds. And at the same time I have given gifts like this as a way of saying “thank you” to Realtors, Brokers, AM’s, Buyers, and so on.

But just to be safe you should consult with an attorney or get something in writting from an ‘official’ source…like the a state dpt.

I always give away a free home warranty!! Not quite as exciting as a plasma tv…

There is a place near me offering a free car when the purchase of a loft.

Speaking of free cars…

Incentives can be good…new home builders do it all the time. The “key” as Michael said is to make sure it is okay with the purchaser’s lending requirements…
