I did an owner finance on a property that I sold that was free and clear… The buyer had neither a SSN nor a TIN… The lawyer at the title company assured me that I could sell the property to that person legally… All of the tax information, regarding interest on the loan and capital appreciation is reported to the IRS on a yearly basis, so nothing is attempted to be hidden…
When submitting my taxes on paper form, I just left the space blank where the buyers SSN/TIN was requested. I have been doing this for five years and have not received any complaints from the IRS…
My accountant now tells me that He will be required to file electronically going forward for his clients… He attempted to file mine via E file but it was rejected because there was not a SSN/TIN in the space where it was requested…
Any solutions to my dilemma would be appreciated…
