I’ve contacted a couple of people I’ve found on Craigslist for mentors, but haven’t heard back yet. I need mentors! Specifically mentors in my area, and that are used to dealing with small towns.
There are no REI groups here. I don’t feel like I can start one because I don’t know what I’m doing yet.

Well I don’t think you need to be an REI pro to start a group. Just don’t present yourself as one when you’re starting it. You may only get a few people that are at your level, but you can all grow together. Of course that’s easy for me to say when I’m an hour away from Houston. Is there nowhere close you could focus on? Albany maybe?

Albany’s an hour from me as well. However, I’ll be having to go that way soon on a regular basis for my 9-5. I just don’t know how long I’ll have to do that. I will def check it out though and see what I might find. Albany may just be the market I should focus on anyway…I’ll see.
And I think it’s a very good piece of advice to start an REI group…even if we are all newbies.
