NEW FORUM RULE!

I agree with Rookie… and we BOTH made our peace many moons ago and I’m glad we did. He’s a great resource.

I think the ability of this site to ADAPT to the needs and concerns of its members is what keeps people coming back…When ANY one person basically takes over a section of the forum for personal political agenda that’s NEVER GOOD.

The writing was on the wall here…More and more members just got TIRED of it…On and On, day after day…The frustration was obvious in the responses.

John CASH Locke…THANK YOU…Really…and I PROMISE to keep the Stock and “Door” posts coming. :beer

None of this would be necessary if people could keep their snide comments to themselves.

Or their POSTS!!! :beer

I have cable. Lots of channels. I choose not to watch a few I do not enjoy. I don’t try not to get them taken off the air because I might not like them. This whole site is for the real-estate investor and a small slice of it was for learning about “whatever was on people’s minds”. Guess what what on their minds? The very things that are now banned.
Did I agree with everything Propertymanager said? No, but he put a lot of information out there. Read it, do your own research and conclude what you will. Don’t squelch the information though.

Did

I actually agree with you. It doesn’t bother me if someone has one political view or another, but some people really think it is important and get really worked up about it. As our grandmothers told us to not discuss politics or religion (or how ugly his wife is) in public. That is what we are doing here. We just shouldn’t go there.

I think the problem has been addressed correctly…If the OCCASSIONAL political post made it’s way to this forum…NO ONE would have cared…There would have been some debate, and the next TOPIC would move everyone on…

But when the SAME PERSON, is slinging the same HASH, over and over, day after day, the PATRONS eventually will want to EAT somewhere else!!!
If your cable system ran the SAME COMMERCIAL on every channel everyday, NON STOP, would you eventually go to DIRECT TV??..HECK YEA!!!

The moderators here eliminated a MENU CHOICE that people got TIRED OF…Need PROOF of that???

Look at how MANY…ZERO RESPONSES there where to those posts…The writing was on the wall…Serve us up something besides the same old SLOP…PLEASE!!!

And to their credit…“The MANAGEMENT” listened!!! and that’s what you DO when you run ANYTHING successfully…You LISTEN to your customers.

If serving BOURBON soaked PANCAKES causes FIST FIGHTS in your restaurant, you can either pad the WALLS or take the BOURBON out of the PANCAKES!!

No, REALLY, we get it.

Keith

Sorry…I’m done! :beer

If you ban FDJake your basically banning me too. I'll never be back if that happens.

I have to reiterate John’s feelings on this. FDJake, Rookie, FO,Chris and many others provide great value on here and tips that have put money in my pocket.

As far as the enforced rule, I feel it is a great move. :beer

I have been a member of REIClub for quite a long while. I enjoyed assisting newbies for several years with starting their rental property businesses. Over the last year or so, it has become apparent to me that there are things more important than chasing another dollar. I have come to believe that the very foundation of our country is in jeopardy and that the America we have enjoyed will not be there for our kids and grandkids. Therefore, I have been posting information that I consider important for preserving our freedom and our capitalist form of government. You will note that during that time, while I have been repeatedly personally attacked by Nancy and others, no-one has challenged the content of what I have posted - as I only post information that can be backed up with facts.

Not long ago, I became quite disillusioned when Positive Outlook was banned for nothing more than being attacked by Nancy. You’ll note that while Nancy repeatedly violated the forum rules by attacking PO, it was PO that was banned due to Nancy’s incessant whining. That was simply WRONG and I said so.

Now, again due to Nancy’s whining, the rules have been changed and political discussions are no longer allowed. Since that is now my main area of interest, I have decided to leave REIClub and spend my time elsewhere.

I wish you all the best.

Mike,
I don’t know what the rule will do, but I doubt it will kill the forums. The forums were here for 6 or 7 years BEFORE “Random Ramblings” even opened up. And the post count used to be double to triple what it is now.

Of course, political decisions are important, especially as they affect real estate investors. Discussing those specific actions, bills, etc. as they relate to real estate investing is one thing. From the few posts I’ve read, what you’ve been doing is quite another.

This site is dedicated to real estate investing INFORMATION and has almost never been part of any advocacy efforts.

If you want to do pure real estate networking, there are better sites for it. If you want to post properties for sale, there are better sites for it. If you want to share your own political views, there are better sites for it.

If you want to learn and share information about real estate investing, there are few sites better. Let’s keep it that way, please.

Thanks.
Tim

Hey Mike I’m a big time lurker and I’d like to say that I hope you reconsider staying. You’ve posted a lot of good information over the years and I think everyone here would like you to keep contributing as long as it is related to RE. If you want to discuss politics there are tons of good forums for that.

Sidenote: I’m assuming that new laws and proposed laws that would directly effect business/RE are ok discuss even though it is political, as long as it doesn’t turn into an ideology flame war.

My final piece on this:

Mike, please don’t stop coming here.

In the event that you do, here are a few sites others (who enjoyed reading your links) can look into for some “off the path” information. Believe it or not…those are your choices.

www.zerohedge.com

www.shtfplan.com

http://www.collapsemovie.com/connect_the_dots.html

Enjoy! or don’t, it’s up to you.

Mike, I wish you would reconsider. I enjoyed your views here, especially politically. It is pretty crappy that we can’t post our political views anymore, but the best way to change things in washington is to protest and contribute $$$ to the right candidates. Not posting on an internet forum. I think I am over the legal limit on Rand Paul, but I feel pretty good about the return on those dollars. There are a bunch of other good ones not as well known running in November.

Anyways I hope you stay but if you don’t thanks for all your help over the years here.

John

Mike,

you’ll be sorely missed.

look me up if you’re heading up to Algonquin.

-Mike

Mike,
I don’t want you to go. I like your take on how you handle your real estate I even enjoyed jerking your chain politically. If you leave I will miss you.

I for one think it’s great that PM can finally take a stand for something he believes in.

Good luck tilting at windmills.

Nothing against Mike / PM but he hasn’t posted anything of meaningful value in the last year.

Osama? Check

Economy about to collapse? Check

Socialists taking over the world? Check

Rehash / regurgitate over and over.

Real Estate? Nothing. Hasn’t bought anything in the last how many years and doesn’t believe in buying anything more.

He contributed a lot many moons ago, but has gone partially crazy in the last year.

BTW, thanks Cash Locke for coming in here and cleaning this place up.

Mike,
If it hadn’t been for your initial welcome when I first posted on REI I doubt I would have done it again. A couple of members flamed my post, I think it was “Why Not or Double Triple Your Rent By Furnishing Your Rentals” or something similar.

You assured me that I had posted something valuable and new and to ignore the critics. You were interested in what I wrote. You are the reason I continued to post on this site.

I’ve learned to accept verbal bashings and that it’s okay to criticize others. I even enjoyed ribbing you about your postings. You have also exposed me to a Conservative viewpoint that I would not have sought out. That broadened my knowledge of the political spectrum and thought in this country.

You have moderated your postings, no more “Osama” when you got called on it.

I think you are too valuable a member to leave this site. You have written a useful book on landlording–I bought it, like many other readers on this site.

I respect you and your heart-felt beliefs. I think REI CLUB needs you and your expertise. I think you need us because we help moderate you when you get too far out there.

Take a little break if you must, then come back. Okay?
