Negotiating SFH deal: After Inspection

I am purchasing a SFH with detached garage for rental property. I had a home inspection contingency clause. Found out the garage needs new roof/siding. Should I ask for an allowance for this? How would you negotiate this?

Yes you can negotiate anything. If it truly needs a roof, I would deduct the amount it will take from my offer. If it is going to be a rental, what will you paying for the roof do to the cashflow. If the roof is too bad, and they won’t take enough off, the deal may not be a good deal. Remember you are talking about $3k to $7k for a new roof. You are asking for that much off the house. It may not be a deal that can be done.
