I have some cash (over $100K), and live in South Texas. I just retired from the service due to medical reasons. I need to know how I can locate properties for sale in my area such as repos., foreclosures, fixer uppers, etc.
Welcome nathunt!
If you are in need of getting this type of information, I would think you are still learning the ropes, so-to-speak. Therefore, I would suggest you first read a lot of the free articles on this site as well as other REI sites. A lot of the information you are asking is in the archives as well. I’d further suggest you seek out and go to a local REIA club meeting to network with other investors, who can tell you more about your specific area than anyone here.
Happy investing!
Welcome!
NoMoneyDown summarizes it pretty well. Take some time and read through all of the posts. (it will take a while)
Then check out the Real Estate Clubs link under Investor Resources to the left of this post.
Good Luck!!
Howdy Nathunt:
There are sources all over the place.
Newspaper, Greensheet, birddoggs, MLS, foreclosure listing companies that post the pre-foreclosures, your own website, bandit signs, other lead generating web sites like webuyhousesforcash.com and fasthomeoffers.com and quickoffers.com , FSBO signs, contacting owners of vacant houses, post cards to out of town owners and many other ways to find deals.
Hello, All three posts above are correct. You just recieved the best information that you could get. I will add that you should use OPM (other peoples money) when investing.
Hello, I am also quite new to this forum and so far all this information has been extremely helpful. I have taken the basic course from Russ Whitney and it opened my eyes for different possibilities that exist out there. I have also been absorbing all the info from these posts and they have been very informational and quite entertaining at times. I hope I speek for a lot of newbees and the silent readers that are benefiting from this wealth of information. Being new to this forum and some of REI’s lingo I was wondering if any one would explain a couple of words that TedJR is referring to:
-Greensheet-what is it and how could I get a hold of one?
-Bandit Signs- " ?
Your knowledge and explanation is greatly appreciated.
Elizabeth,
The Greensheet “is a free weekly publication for low-cost shopping and low-cost selling for individuals and businesses in the cities of Houston, Austin, Dallas, …” (their words from www.google.com)
It can be located at www.thegreensheet.com
Bandit signs are the signs that you see along the road “We buy houses, any condition”, etc.
Hope this helps…
Keith
Thank you for your response, Keith. Your posts are very helpful as usual.
You’re welcome.
