Ok, I have a small 10 plex with a lot of poor people that bring stuff from EVRYWHERE. Now I have bedbuds, bad. They are in four of my places. Tenants are moving out. Insurance won’t cover any of it. Pest control says it takes $16,100 to heat and bake these bastards to death. What the heck do I do? ANyone deal with this before. My tenants are bailing.
Hi,
I would find a different pest control company to come in and spray the exterior perimeter and spray all the common hall ways and access around the building!
Next I would ask all your tenants to leave for the day and make sure you put out anything with an open flame and set off bug bombs in the building, all this is doing so far is reducing the population.
Then instruct all your tenants when returning to completely wash all there cloths and dryclean any comforters and quilts and blankets.
Next encase every matress in plastic covers that seal up and prevent bed bugs from moving. (They will die if trapped after about 15 months)
Then vacuum every floor and space you can see with a good wet / dry vac with a hepa filter, move all furniture, then clean out every cabinet and shelf and vacuum every gap you can not get to.
Then buy a few big bags of diatomaceous earth, it comes in kind of a fine powder and sprinkle this along every wall and around cabinets and tub / toilet! The diatomaceous earth dry’s up the xo skelatin and kills all the bugs by dehydration. Next by 2 sided tape and but a barrier around every bed and cloth covered couch / chair which traps the bedbugs in the sticky side of tape, you will need to keep replacing this with your tenants until you get control of the bedbugs.
Good luck,
GR
Our pest control company says it is a growing problem in hotels since people bring them in on their suitcases from infested motels and hotels.
Even high-end hotels are having to deal with this. Even the pictures must be removed from the walls as bedbugs can be living in the paper backing.
A nightmare that I hope never to have to deal with. Hunter, please keep us informed on how you are dealing with it and the costs. It could happen to us at anytime.
Just like human lice have become a much more common problem since international travel became available to the masses, now we have to deal with this traveling human parasite as well. Almost makes you want to stay home.

Thanks to everyone for their posts!
I just want to say this to all that be wary of purchasing used furniture.
For bedbugs you can use products like Bug Patrol which is an all-natural product that is very effective. It will eliminate all the bed bugs and keep them from coming back. It’s easy to use and doesn’t cause the harmful side effects that pesticide can.
