Mentor Challenge!!!

Dont get me wrong, i would love to work under a mentor but it seems that all of the seasoned RE inverstor want to keep all of the knowledge to their self (taking it to the grave). Think back to when you our frist stating out as an investor, and much you would done to get a good mentor. THAT IS HOW I AM NOW!!! I live in the St Louis area and i CHALLENGE all of the REI’s in the area to put their knowledge were their mouth is, and help an up and coming real estate investor and carry-on your name and knowledge :help. Invest in someones future (my future) and watch me grow, like a proud parent. (I know that i cant get something for nothing).

p.s. if you do not live in the St. Louis area, but you know some investors who do, tell them about this blog and give them the CHALLENGE.

I could not agree more!

I’ve been a Realtor for 2 years in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and have just started investing for myself.

Not only am I finding it difficult to find a mentor (w/o paying thousands of dollars) but the majority of the people i’m trying to network with aren’t true investors…they are speculators (buy~hold~pray). Even the agents in my brokerage don’t understand RE investing or they just say it’s too risky.

I can’t even get ahold of a local REIA to attend (no phone/no returned emails). I spoke to another REIA group (4 1/2hours away) and they said the group I was trying to attend is very unorganized.

I’ve bought many books, listened to countless podcasts, read tons of articles, and attended national workshops…

All I want to due is take action but am finding it difficult to find like minded individuals to speak with/look up to/make $$$ with.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

You guys are silly. There is no need to post any ‘Challenges’ to anyone in here trying to appeal to their competitive nature. If you have questions about RE investing all you have to do is ask. Just remember, HOW you ask is just as important as what you ask. Many seasons investors, such as myself, are very busy. We don’t have time to slow down and ‘take someone under our wing’. But we do have time to field questions and help guide people in forums like these. When asking questions Don’t babble; get to the point.

GooD Luck! :beer

From my experience I have had endless numbers of people that would love to have me mentor them for FREE.

I do enjoy helping people, and I do like to do my part to pass on knowledge, the problem is that 99% of people who want FREE mentoring won’t go onto do anything great in the business. Why would they, they don’t even trust themselves enough to spend a little bit of money?

I spend thousands of dollars to get mentored, buy courses, and improve myself. I spend the money simply because I am worth the money. There is no stock on earth that will surpass the returns of investing in yourself.

A huge portion of successful people have mentors and coaches that they pay for. If I can spend $2000.00 to have someone teach me how to make $20,000, I will do it.

When you have nothing invested in your future, you have nothing to lose when you fail, only the mentor loses. They lose their time, they lose their effort, they lose their faith, but the student loses nothing, because they pay nothing.

You truly don’t need a mentor to get started in the RE business, yes it does help but don’t let they be the excuse that holds you back from living the life you deserve.

I never had a mentor, I had 1000 mentors that I pick and chose information from to get where I am today. There is enough knowledge on this website alone to get you well on your way to investing success.

Remember you can make excuses or make progress, but never both.

I live in the St Louis area and i CHALLENGE all of the REI's in the area to put their knowledge were their mouth is, and help an up and coming real estate investor and carry-on your name and knowledge . Invest in someones future (my future) and watch me grow, like a proud parent.

Why would a successful investor want to invest in your future and “watch you grow”? You’re not in preschool and you are not up for adoption. Successful investors are concerned with their businesses, not yours, and certainly no one is going to spoon feed you.

If you want to succeed, then you must EARN it - you are not entitled to it. Read every post on this forum. Join your local REIA and make friends with the successful investors in your area. Study, study, study!!! You can’t count on someone else to do it for you.

Good Luck,

Mike

Thank you…

It’s encouraging to have knowledgable people actually respond to postings and pass on some knowledge. I’m sure i’ll be on this site quite a bit and asking questions here and there. Eventually I will be the one to answer other peoples questions.

I probably just needed to blow off some steam. lol

After 35 years, I feel like I have finally found my passion and I’m finding the more people tell me NO or try to discourage me…the harder I work, study, and I will succeed.

Once again, thanks for the assist.

Whether you’re just getting started down the road towards fulfilling your real estate investing dreams or you’re a little more experienced, a good mentor can get you closer to the realization of your goals by showing you some of the tips, tricks, and other shortcuts that have fueled their success.
The problem many fledgling real estate investors face – and some with a little more experience – is self doubt about their ability to put together profitable deals, as well as having numerous questions about when certain techniques would be most appropriate.
These doubts and questions can easily be alleviated by knowledge, but a lot of real estate investors have trouble applying principles they may have read about, heard about, or seen in a short webinar. This is one of the primary areas a good, experienced mentor can help increase their base of knowledge and give them the motivation and the direction they need to reach their goals and fulfill their investing dreams.
First of all, mentors aren’t all created the same. In order to be effective you have to have practical, relevant experience in the same kind of real estate investing as those you plan on teaching. A mentor can be one of the nation’s foremost authorities on creative commercial real estate investing techniques, but much of that knowledge and experience is pointless if you’re primarily interested in foreclosures, short sales, or rehabbing abandoned properties.
A good mentor will be concerned about your development as a real estate investor and will take the steps necessary to ensure that you are well-versed in multiple investing strategies. He or she will share with you accumulated knowledge and advice about how to better market yourself, and provide you with essential real estate investing tips and strategies that you can implement in your own career. By understanding a variety of ways of structuring investment deals, you will not only increase your knowledge, but you’ll become comfortable crafting deals of your own.
In many cases, a mentor will work shoulder to shoulder with you in the field and explain to you why certain strategies may or may not be appropriate in a given situation. In addition, certain strategies can be altered or modified in a way that a less experienced real estate investor might not be aware of, or may not have even considered. When you’ve been around the block several dozen times, you learn things that a simple textbook just can’t teach.
There’s a special bond that develops between a mentor and their students. I’ve developed friendships with a number of my students, and am still in touch with a great many others on a regular basis. I get excited whenever I hear that one of my students has put together a profitable deal that might not have been possible had it not been for the time spent with me listening, learning, and asking questions.
If you want to really ramp up your real estate investing career, you owe it to yourself and your future to thoroughly investigate the idea of working with an experienced mentor to shine a light on the opportunity you have to build a strong investment portfolio and a bright future for you and your family.
