looking for an internship

I am a young college student who is interested in real estate investing as a possible career. Next month I will be going to my local investor meeting to look for an internship working with a successful investor. Before I do that I want to see what you guys think about this idea. Would you take on an intern? Would it be paid or unpaid? What type of work would you have me do?

Just looking for some general feedback

Depends on what part of REI you’re wanting to get into… We just do buy & hold for rentals - no Lease Options, wholesaling, etc. So if you were looking to get into those other areas, you wouldn’t get anything from hanging around with me. I’d be willing to take someone around and show them some of our places, talk about the business, etc. I don’t usually hire just anyone to help out. I already have that aspect covered. You might be able to help someone get a place ready by doing some painting, clean-out, etc in exchange for some education.
It would be a good way to learn if you could find someone who’s doing well with REI.

You will probably hear from many people about this. It is a great idea! Seriously! When I was 18 years old I had a chance to tag along with a real estate investor. He became my mentor, and I honestly believe that having the chance to learn from him changed my life. I offered to work for him for free. To you it might sound crazy, but let me tell you, it was the best investment I have ever made. When he had small projects to do like painting or resurfacing wooden floors, he paid me ten bucks an hour, but the real value was that I was able to ask him questions about investing in real estate and pick his brain while I was working. He even took me around with him to look at houses and multiunit buildings and taught me the things to look for and what to avoid. He encouraged me to start making offers of my own and try to find my own deals. When I did start actively looking for deals, he guided me on how to present my offers. With his guidance, I started buying rental property at just 18 years old. My mentor only lived in my city for about a year, then moved several states away. If I could do it over again, I would have spent even more time with him. Actually, to be honest, if I could do it over again, I would probably move away with him! It sounds kind of funny, but I’m not joking.

Any person who will take the time to become your mentor is an angle. If you find someone that will take you under their wing, take full advantage of it!
It has been years since my mentor moved away and I am still trying to replace him.

Hi,

I have actually had lunch with Jesse twice, I first met him when I offered to meet with him if he buys lunch, we spent 2.5 hours talking about real estate and answering his questions! The second time I bought him lunch and we spent a little over 2 hours talking about real estate!

Jesse is I believe 20 years old, is a full time student at ASU (Arizona State University) and will start his Junior year this August, he is also a real estate agent, and last I knew was trying to make enough income selling real estate while going through college.

I was under the impression that between college, selling real estate and a girlfriend that he had his hands full, because I offered to spend time with him, but I also encouraged him to work hard at college and get his degree since it was pretty much paid for!

Him and I went and saw 2 or 3 of the properties we have here in the Phoenix area, and he has my phone number but has never called me since last summer!

I asked him to call me Sunday by PM but have not heard from him yet?
