Can anybody give me some advise on the legal side of real estate for my mother. My aunt is trying to screw her over on their dad’s house. She has the most money and thinks that gives her power. She wants to buy my mom out but is offering a lesser price than what the house is valued at? Does anybody know my mom’s legal rights? Does anybody know that cost of a real estate attorney? My mom and the house are in rural Kansas.
I would assume that your mother and aunt have equal ownership interests in the house? I so you should evaluate your mother’s situation and the offer being made by your aunt. Compare the offer to the market value of the property in today’s marketplace, not prices from a year ago etc. If you still feel it is inadequate tell your aunt so and explain to her what you think your mother’s share of the property is worth. Protect your mom’s interest but be realistic. You should also ask around locally and find a good real estate attorney in Kansas to evaluate any offers. A grand or two spent on good advice could save your mom from a much larger mistake. good luck
