In general, no. That being said, there probably aren’t going to be too many contractors willing to take time out to write up formal quotes on properties that you are just scoping out but most likely will not buy. My recommendation would be to find a friend in the construction/trades that can help you get started estimating projects. Once you see enough houses you’ll start to be able to get rough ideas of what rehabs cost. When you have a property under contract, thats when you probably want to bother the contractors to get formal written quotes. There’s also a book you can buy at Barnes and Noble, I don’t remember the name exactly, that is a construction cost estimator for 2008 that I’ve been told is pretty accurate. Good luck.
