Is it just me???...or

am I having another blonde moment (i.e. Brain cramp) I look at all new topics posted every eve, and alot of what I see can be answered by clicking somewhere on the left side of the screen. Meaning mainly most of the “where do I go”… ; “How do I find…” the biz.
Can’t anyone figured out how to think a little further outside the box after visiting this site. If you havent recieved an answer after your post, Here’s your sign :banghead:

You are right on the money. I personally think all new members to this site would be wise to check some of the things listed on the left. There is a ton of stuff there, and I wonder how many have never looked there.

I’d like to comment on this… partially as a devil’s advocate, and partially ‘guilty as charged.’

Let me cite an example to illustrate my point: Recently I started a post about Russ Whitney. Put simply, I felt that one or two candid comments on these message boards about Russ Whitney’s trainings, are worth far more than 100 testimonials found on Whitney’s site.

I think that same idea applies to other areas as well. As someone who is not a part of a real estate community (yes, I am trying to change that), any comments I get here on things I am interested in, are priceless. Even if what I hear is the same exact info I have gotten elsewhere – it’s still invaluable to have some form of confirmation that the info I got is correct.

Furthermore, with all the back and forth, the love/hate for the ‘gurus’… my head is sometimes spinning. So a little affirmation from the more seasoned people here can be priceless.

So… on behalf of the newbies, I am sorry for using this forum as a way to shout out entry-level principles, in hopes of hearing it echoed back. But trust me folks, your input is very valuable, and goes a long way to motivate us into action.

Thanks!

LMAO, Carolann ;D
Smart, good looking and sassy, my kind of gal. Instant gratification is the curse of our modern society.
Study? Read? Exercise initiative? OMG, that sounds like work!! :-\ I thought REI was supposed to make me rich overnight? Can’t someone else take time away from your deals to help me? What’s a comp? etc, etc
That same type of prevailing attitude is why there aren’t any more members of the 20% club. It’s why cream rises…IMO. I truly wish folks would give themselves a hand up rather than looking for a hand-out. Pardon the rant.
Dave

There will always be people with needs and there will always be people that need to fill those needs.

But when someone asks “where do I find a wholesaler?” or "how do I find an investor?"etc… DUH…
Classifieds maybe? Investor Resources? Pick up the :-X telephone?
I mean com’ on guys…
everyones input is appreciated here, but when your looking for someone to do biz with, what do you check first???

Everyone ,…please pardon my rant as well. :-\Which is maybe 90% of my participation here ( hope the mods don’t kick me off :-[ ). I do read everything and see alot of intelligent Q&A. Everything I’ve ever needed answered was already asked with many intelligent responses. I believe I personally had only one question posted concerning “Eminent Domain” (nothing to do with “where do I get” or “how do I find”), and got my answers right here and a couple of phone calls.
For those of you whom have cracked the code, please forgive me for feeling this way about the gimmes when it’s right to the left of the screen!

Okay Dave,…
LMAO??? What does that mean??

Carolann…

In fairness, this IS the ‘Beginners’ thread. If you can’t ask stupid questions here, where can you ask them? When I first found this site, I was asking questions (for my above-mentioned reasons) before exploring and realizing the resources along the left hand column were staring me in the face. And even when I did find them, I was (is) wary about how dependable it all was. Don’t take this the wrong way, but some of the material I found there sounded very basic… wait, what I mean is, it sounded very amature. Now this doesnt mean it’s not perfetly accurate, but to the novice, how do I know? Me and the other newbies are busy fending off “gurus” trying to sell us books and tapes for thousands of dollars – how are we to know how good the material here is?

PS: Are you really as hot as they say you are??

I don’t mind beginner stupid questions, please dont take this the wrong way. I have stupid question too. But if you were to start a topic here asking “where can I find wholesale deals”, LOOK TO YOUR LEFT!!!

your P.S.??? who’s THEY??? and what makes you think I’m hot??

Agreed. We get people on other boards “ranting” about newbies not using the search function or looking at other resources on the site. If someone is upset by reading someone’s beginner-type questions, then that’s too bad. Everyone has different backgrounds. What makes sense and is common knowledge to you isn’t to others. That’s why we all share.

carolann,

the only stupid questions are the ones we don’t ask.

Well,…Deeinaustin and christopher w,
you do have a point there, and forgive me,…when it comes to common sense, I automatically think it’s built into every human being.
I have alot of stupid questions too, but when I want/need info as simple as what I quoted above, I don’t usually post and wait for nobody to respond,…I pick up the phone and call someone or send a pm. I like to NETWORK!!

Okay,…somebody else please start a new topic for beginners on “HOW TO NETWORK”!

I’m going back to the marketing forum

I think the problem is that nobody reads the forum rules, and nobody bothers to take the time to check out the other areas on the website. People should attempt to use the search function, as a lot of posts are repetitive. I don’t think anyone is complaining about the questions asked. But a lot are asked over and over, and can be found by using the search function. But some questions are answered on the left, if people will just take a second and look there first. If you look on the left, do a search and still can’t find the answer, that is the time to post.

The points made about stupid questions is not the issue. There is no such thing as a stupid question. Nobody is complaining about the questions themselves. But many answers can be found on the left, or by using the search function. There are a ton of questions asked over and over.

The above is my opinion and mine only.

carolann,
Re: LMAO - the answer can be found to the left!!!

                             :silly:

Now I am LMAO.
Peace,
Richard

In the Coast Guard and after 23 years of service, I not only do what follows, but I always ask this question to the person who has come to me before I invest any time with them on a certain subject.

The question: Did you check out as many available resources on __ before you came to me? If not, then here is a starting point …"

In my emails looking for guidance from all that I communicate with, any rank, I tell them: “I looked at every resource available to my knowledge about ____. Do you have any advice on ___?”

It is not that any of you would not want to answer someones questions, but if the resources are obviously available, they should be looked at first and then if needed, post a question possibly referring to that resource and let everyone know that you actually did some homework and exhausted every resource known to you."

In my opinion, if this was done, everyone would be more trusting to ask for and give feedback. That will keep this forum healthy and balanced and viable for the long term.

I’m new and have already found good info from reading these posts!

Thanks!

rham…
Go ahead …LYAO
forgive me for not looking for abbreviations! I look for more important things here.
Besides,…it was directed to me, which gave me the right to ask for an explanation from the horses mouth it came from!

P.s. Must’ve been another blonde moment anyway ::slight_smile:

carolann,

You are correct. Most of the basic question posts are already answered somewhere else on the site. In fact, practically ALL of the possible basic questions (hey, let’s face it, there is a limit to the basic questions of REI. What’s unlimited is the number of ways to ask them) have already been answered on this and various other forums time and time again.

I’d even wager that practically ANY question that can be answered has been, either here or on another REI forum site. So if one wanted to take the time to read and search through these forums, they could, in fact, find the answer to basically (heh, heh) any question that they had.

But what fun would that be? No networking if you don’t have any postings.

The above is a link to a site about credit, which is possibly the best forum site there is regarding credit. I’m sure some here have heard of it.

However, the relevance to this post is at the top of the forums there. They have a special section devoted to newbies there. I don’t know how feasible it is, but I personally would love to see something similar here.

The info in their newbie section is excellent. They organized everything so newbies can get the best use out of the site. To make an analogy using this site, the “what is wholesaling” questions…or basic things like that would be answered.

I hope I was within the forum rules posting that website. It is not really a real estate related one, it is on credit. The site is great if you don’t understand credit. But the main reason I posted it is to use their newbie section as an example of what the original poster was talking about.

Mods, if the post is out of the rules, feel free to amend or remove it. I’m not sure if it is. If there is anything wrong, all I ask is that someone tell me. Thanks.

Regards, Tony.

P.S. The main reason I made this post was because I would love to see a newbie section here similar to what credit boards does. Thanks.

Thank you all for your input
You’re absolutely right Roger,…where would the fun be?
For the absolute clueless newbee…may I suggest the glossary located to the left of the screen. It’s an excellent start if you dont know the terminology of RE. It will also help you understand the Q&A better when surfing the forums.
Also, I feel the need and must apologize if I have offended anyone with my original post. This IS afterall the beginners forum and we ARE here to help each other!!
