Investor New to Private Mortgage Lending Needs Advice

I am an investor new to private mortgage lending looking for advice about how to get started.

I am interested in establishing a long term relationship with an experienced, reputable mortgage broker or firm that would find, qualify and (ideally) service private mortgages. I would like to start with smaller amounts and increase as I become more comfortable and experienced.

Is the above the best way to get started or are there other alternatives?

I have done some reading and research and understand how private mortgages work and generally what I’m getting into. I also have a strong background in real estate development. Can you suggest any resources or web links I should be aware of?

Do you have any gems of advice that you wish someone had told you when you were starting out?

Please don’t contact me with individual deals. At this point I want to start by going through an established intermediary.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Your best bet is probably going through a REET. Thats a company that manages properties(commerical) while you sit back and they manage everything.

My brother runs one with around 2000 units at the moment, and the return for investors is around 16%

I think he means REIT (real estate investment trust). A special entity designed to own and manage real property, mortgages etc. They are required by law to payout 90-95% of their net operating income as dividends. There are many publicly traded REITs that have been wonderful investments.

Haha, yeah I meant a REIT.
