For around the past 2 years, my brother (an attorney) and my cousin (also a realtor) have been trying to persuade me to move to California. We were all living in Cleveland, Ohio. This past February, my real estate brokerage, Keller Williams, held our annual convention in Anaheim, CA. It just so happened, that it was the same week as the All-Star game, and my brother was taking California’s bar exam that same week. I needed a break from Cleveland and we all planned to come kick it in LA.
I’ve always been a fan of the big city. Like Chicago, I love Chicago. Cleveland is a small, tattered, economically destroyed town. As our plane was making its descent over Los Angeles, and I could see how vast the city is… I was sold. The days that I was in Los Angeles in February had me wanting to move out here even more. I had a blast on the trip. And, I met a lot of realtor’s out here. The flight back to Cleveland was terrible. We got off the plane, and stepped out into a blizzard!
I flew back out to LA on July 1st. The first 12 days, I spent studying for the state real estate exam, which I took on the 12th. Very different from Ohio. It felt as though only 20% of the test was real estate. Luckily, I passed on the first attempt. Since then, my work has been focused on closing listings out that I have in Cleveland, and generating more leads for a protege I have back home. I can’t promote any business here until I get issued a DRE license number.
As far as just hanging out… Los Angeles is phenomenal. I’ve met some really cool people so far. It seems like this town is all about networking, and I’m very eager to get started as a real estate licensee.
In Cleveland, I was doing a lot of BPO’s. So I am missing that income stream. If anyone on the board could use some web design or graphic work, I’d be happy to take it on. Cheap!
When I get licensed, I will definitely keep the board informed to how I perceive the market here.
Is anyone else on REIClub based in Los Angeles?
All the best,
~Slim~
