I Wonder How Much It Cost Us...

…to figure this out:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2010/07/president-obama-white-house-al-qaeda-is-racist.html

No kidding, REALLY? WOW!

Guess what? They’re anti-Christian and anti-Semetic, too.

Obama is right they are racist. But so is everybody. Racism is not a yes/no go/no go thing. Racism is a continuum. It is a line that stretches from being completely color blind to I can’t even look at a person of another race without throwing up. Everybody is somewhere on the line. That is why I don’t see it as a very useful tool in moving forward to discuss someone’s racism. What you need to do is show them how a person is of benefit and racist or not they will act accordingly. During slavery the slave masters were undoubtedly racist but they saw benefit to themselves to having the slaves around. This caused them to take care of their slaves so they fed them and guarded them from harm. It wasn’t because they loved their slaves (although you can’t convince me that some of them didn’t in fact love their slaves) it was because they derived more benefit from them being well than not. Once slavery was over there was no benefit to them to have well cared for Blacks and then and only then did you use the emergence of groups to harm Blacks like the KKK and later groups like the Aryan Nations and now the Tea party etc.

Al-Qaida and the like blow themselves up. The only value another person has to them be they Black white or orange is someone to be killed when they blow them selves up to produce terror.

Bluemoon is right. Racism is everywhere. Even in Dr. Suess books. The Sneetches with stars on their bellies discriminated against the Sneetches with no stars on their bellies. It does not have to be whites discriminating against blacks. It is everywhere. The Japanese hate the Chinese. The Irish hate the British. I dislike stupid people. etc…

It just gets painted as Black vs White here in the US. But I don’t see it ever going away unless tolerance is taught everywhere by ALL parents and ALL schools. And we all know that is never going to happen.

You’re right Chris. Unfortunately, there will always be an “us” and “them”

Darn right everyone is racist.

It appalls me how racist I am with the rentals I have. But it has kept me alive.

Weird how since the election racism has only gotten worse. Also funny how it’s usually the elites in govt bringing it up Pelosi,Obama,Hoyer,CLinton, etc. :rolleyes

I’m reminded of an interview with Morgan Freeman when he was asked how to get past racism-We quit talking about it,I’m no longer a black man, you’re no longer a white man,we’re just americans talking- Brilliant if you ask me.

But then again, that royally screws up those who can’t argue based on facts.Ignorance is really the root of racism, either by the elites or the ones who look at race first. Both the same.

We’re a long way away from Dr King’s dream of judging a person by their content of charactor rather than skin color. And when you really look into it,it’s a shame.

And I would’nt label a Tea party as racist(there are a few in it I’m sure),but the majority are just regular people tired of big govt screwing the country up.Maybe checkout the "black panther"group to find a majority of racist(really the name should be a dead give away).

What is a racist? And what does the word racist mean? The word itself has come to be a joke.

I am white, proud of it, love other whites, love hanging with whites, love having whites for my neighbors, well, you get the picture.

There will always be “us and them” because “us” don’t commit the great majority of violent crimes, because “us” don’t commit majority of terrorist acts, because “us” don’t barbecue and eat dogs in the backyard and so on.

In a perfect world, diversity might be a great thing. But it doesn’t and never has worked. Why? Because it’s unnatural.

Live and let live, just don’t force your views on me.

rawbertsun,

I think you answered this question…

With this answer…

I have tons of friends from all races and religions and I don’t like any of them more or less because of their race, national origin or religion. Do I like them all equally? No of course not, but I base their likability on their personality not on anything else.

My kids are big into the word “gay” right now. It’s “your gay” or “this is gay” or “that’s gay”. It drives me crazy because I don’t want them associating “gay” with “bad”. I sit them down constantly and say “would you substitute the “N” word in that phrase” and they look at me with a horrible expression and say “no never”. And I ask them why its okay to use one negative stereotype instead of another?

We had a bar-b-que a few weeks ago and one of our neighbors that works in retail brought her “gay boyfriend” with her because her husband was working that day. The “gay boyfriend” was in his early 20’s and was a very nice, cool guy. My oldest who is 15 struck up a conversation with him and they started talking about music and video games, blah, blah, blah. After the party was over my son commented on how Ms. Mary’s (my neighbor) friend was a cool guy and he liked him better than her husband. When I pointed it out to him that the friend was gay he was shocked because he thought all gay men are cross dressers, etc… it really hit home to him that we are all same inside. I thought it was a good lesson for him.

Nice Christopher!! :beer

That’s clever. :rolleyes

CHristopher,

Great point. So many are forming their opinion of a person based on race, religion, etc rather than just seeing what the person has to say themselves.I’ve got gay friends also, they are’nt those flaunting gay ones that are annoying. In fact you would’nt even know it unless they told you.

It’s a shame that so many miss out on some good people because of their own inner demon feelings towards a race, religion, etc. This labeling and putting people in groups is dividing our great country which used to be known as a melting pot.

Oh and I know exactly what your talking about with your kid saying “that is so gay”.My dad remarried and had a later in life kid,my brother is 15.He says that too.I think we have those great hollywood type to thank for yet another brainless phrase for the youth to repeat.
