I Purchased a Plane with cash, Sellers friends told him I must be a drug dealer.

I just got back from driving to a Small town in New Mexico and purchased a plane, removed the wings, tied it all to my trailer and brought it back to California.
It was an expensive purchase but I paid cash. I gave him a $500 deposit 6 months ago and finally it all came together, got a camper shell for my truck, got a nice flat bed trailer, rented a hanger at the local country airport, I didn’t have any more excuses not to go get it. So anyway.

I returned home a few days ago and today I got an email from John the 78 year old seller saying his church friends were telling him I was probably a drug dealer cuz I’m from Calif and paid in cash and wud be using the plane to smuggle drugs in from Mexico haha. This little town in NM has a population of 430 and I must of been the hot topic.
He said he defended me vigorously telling them I was a real nice guy but he cudnt convince them.

Here is my reply email to John.

John, Haha, that’s funny. My friends also think I’m doing something illegal to be making all this money, especially since I was just a hard working carpenter for over 30 years making squat until the economy went belly up.

But, fortunately for me I seen a late night commercial telling how you cud make money in Real Estate with no money and no credit. I spent $25 on a book.

In fact my last few deals I made $28,000 friking dollars. I find these old junk houses, get them on contract and flip them to rehab investors, We go thru a Title company and escrow so its all documented and very legal.

The really great thing about my life is, I found something much better than alcohol or drugs, and that’s the love I get from my young kids and beautiful young wife… She’s 40 and Im 64 yrs old.

We have 5 acres on a beautiful Island called Bohol, part of the Philippines. Her and the kids live there and I go there 4-6 months every year.

We have been completely rehabbing and rebuilding our home there since it suffered some serious damage in a earthquake.

Yep John, I think I must be the luckiest guy on the planet, and the crazy thing is, I’m getting better at my new profession and better times and more prosperity is coming.

And, I luv telling my story and helping others get into Real Estate, in fact I paid 3 helpers that I recruited in the last few months $25,000 that found some of these deals for me.

And, I know it all sounds like BS, so I photograph all my checks for proof. And guess what, I still don’t even believe it, how cud this chewed up old exconstruction worker be making this kind of money and be so blessed. Haha, but I know why, it’s because I educated myself, took a chance along with the risk, took action and I’m making it happen.

I enclosed a photo of me and my family and just a few of the many checks I’ve been getting.

I hope this helps the old guy, and he believes me. But, I got better things to do, like flip some more houses.
Let’s make some MONEY

So how much was the plane? What kind? A Cesna?

The plane is a Rans S-14 Single place sport plane Experimental class. It has a 65 Horse Power Rotax 2 Stroke engine with electric start.
It cruises at 80 MPH, has flaps and ailerons and full 3 axis control, fully enclosed with plexi glass cockpit. It’s a high wing pusher configuration with strut braced wings. It also has a ballistic parachute. If you push the chute button this frikin parachute shoots out and fully inflates in 1 second and brings you and the plane down safely.
I’ve had ultralight planes before and I was always scared to death, I wud have even nightmares of crashing and dying. Every time I flew I wondered if this was the day I die.
Before each flight and as I sat on the runway reving up the engine my hands wud be sweaty, I wud be nervous as hell. As soon as the plane lifted off it was all smiles and I wud completely forget about the fear factor.
I paid $7,400 for this plane, spent about $400 in gas to pick it up and paid my buddy Russ 500 buks to go with me to help drive and load the plane. At first I thought I way over paid him for a 48 hr trip, on the way back and realizing what an ordeal it was, I shud of gave him double.

Wow, I googled a picture of it and it looks amazing like something out of an old James Bond movie. Do you need a sports pilot license to fly that? I might look into getting one myself.

Haha, technically your supposed to have a sport plane license, which I heard is much easier to get than a regular license.
But I got this plane out in a county airstrip, no tower. Most of the time it’s deserted. Got me a nice metal hanger. I’ll just tell anybody that asks that it’s an Ultralight. Nobody is going to weigh it or put a radar gun on it.
My last plane was too heavy also, it had a 503 52 HP Rotax engine, I added cowling and windshield and large bush tires and steering nose wheel and a 10 gallon seat tank. I flew it for years and out of a similar small airport.
I wont be flying into Los Angeles or Frisco. Nope, these planes are for flying around the pea patch and I probably wont be going more than 20 miles in any direction.
On google maps I located a custom home out in the foot hills, It had a hanger and a nice gravel air strip. House was gorgeous with a pool and the fancy landscaping. I wrote the guy a letter asking if I cud tie my plane out there, but he called and said he had to get a special zoning variance and was afraid if another plane used it, it wud cause him to lose his permission.
But this guy was living the dream, well, my dream anyways.
