Humidex System vs.. Dehumidifier

Does anyone have any experience with the Humidex system which basically consists of a fan in a tower assembly which moves the lower, damp air to the outside to reduce moisture, musty smells and mold formation, expecially in basements.
I understand that the unit is quite expensive ($1,000-$1,500) considering that there is not much to it.

Any comments?

A decent dehumidifier will run your well over $200 and needs to be emptied very frequently, for me I’d rather have a system that runs without interaction from me.
