I never have problems with my contractor. Part of the reason is that I have a daily with him. We get together every morning and go over what we are planning to accomplish during the day. Moreover, using my “system”, I’ve been able to retain the same contractor for years. He doesn’t goof off on the job and can do the work of 5 or 6 typical hourly workers. He doesn’t smoke or drink on the job and I never worry about him suing me! Want to know where to find a great contractor like that? Look in the mirror when you brush your teeth in the morning. He usually hangs out there!
Well, to tell the truth, I’m having a little problem with my contractor today. He took the day off because he got a new radio control helicopter and is spending the day playing. You can’t get good help anywhere (even in the mirror)!
Mike
Hey I got one of those for Christmas…only problem is that the dog goes crazy over it, so I gotta lock him up when I play with it. And they are tough to control!
Yes, they are tough to control. I got the crash proof training apparatus for mine and the flight simulator. So far, I’ve hovered the helicopter, but I’ve crashed the simulator at least 50 times trying to fly around. That’s what makes it fun.
Mike
Hey Mike, can I borrow your mirror? Hell, I probably couldn’t afford a contractor like you anyway… :biggrin
Mine’s got some issues I think. B/C it’s constantly spinning counter clockwise no matter how many times I tap the trim button. Oh well, still fun.
If it’s spinning left, look in the cockpit. It might have one of those little democratic pilots in there.
Mike
I hear looking in the mirror while brushing teeth is the only way to find a good property manager as well…
Mike, add a few air to air missle’s and a gattling gun to the helicopter and I’ll bet some of those unruly tenants will start toeing the line more often…lol
On more serious note, home center parking lots are a good way to see how organized and professional contractors may be (at least in loading their vans) approach or at least take the phone# from the work vehicle of the one’s you think would be good.
Supply houses (plumbing, electrical, etc.) also good for contacts.
If that is the case, I may have to burn the little thing. :biggrin Can’t have no left wingers in my house!
All I can share is my experience I worked with this doctor who yes believe it or not was also a contractor. He would come out ranting and raving and carring on daily about his other business. He would spend 2000.00 sueing someone for 1000.00 because of the principal. The lawyer was his best friend they traveled together on trips. He had numerous law suits going all the time and really pleased when he took some one to the cleaners and as he say “they won’t mess with me again”.
Obviously I don’t work there anymore I caught on fast this guy was a jerk but why would you want to constantly be in legal issues all the time. Some of the things he was justified in pursueing but most being unreasonable and could be avoided.
Check the better busines bureau, check he actually is licensed and get waiver of leins on everything.
