How do you find information about a city/town when you live out of state?
What kind of information?
You can look at certain web sites (like Yahoo!) to get demographics.
You can look at the city’s Chamber of Commerce site for a lot of good info, too.
we bought land in TX (located in NY)
we focused on calling as many businesses as possible, ranging from local developers to title companies to dentist offices.
the last place we checked was local realtors.
chamber of commerce - some offer GREAT demographic information by zip code - so you can check for many different factors…these are usually updated yearly so they can be a GREAT resource for information.
town (municipality and county offices) - depending on where you’re looking - some town reps can be GREAT - friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. it also helps to know WHAT TO ASK.
local attorney - see who can help you close your deal locally or see if your current attorney knows or can recommend anyone in that locale.
just a few to name.
it’s like anything else - you have to do data mining.
i’m also sure there are paid services as well that can gather info for you.
It would be more helpful (and many of us on the site are more than willing to help) if you would be more specific with what sort of information you are looking for on the town?
You might even check some sites like cnn.com. Go to their real estate section. You might also go to city-data.com to get some economic/demographic info. Hope that helps!!
