Yes, contact your zoning board for details. Typically you will be required to notify the adjacent property owners of your zoning change request and then go before the zoning board for a public hearing.
We have always found this to be sucessful, usually no one complains unless your putting in a bar or somthing neghbors may consider in bad taste. And…even if they disagree their thoughts can be voiced but it still dosn’t make much difference unless like I said it is a business considered to be in bad taste.

When and if you do go before the zoning board, make sure you are prepared. Bring photos of the property from all angles, drawings/ plans of any future modifications, etc. Are you friendly with your neighbors? Contact them before the meeting. Tell them what your intent is to dispell any fears they may have. Be completely upfront and honest to avoid any problems that could come up after the fact.
All of these actions will only help you succeed.
