how can I get a title search

I am about to get some houses in to contract, but I feel like I need to do a hard title search, for liens and all that. Can anybody give me an idea on how to.

You can go to the county courthouse and ask the clerks for assistance (they are government employees paid for by your taxes!)or you can pay a title company to do it for you.

Thanks Keith, as a matter of fact I talked to my title company today, but I will see with city hall first thing in the morning.
