Hotel ownership

I talked to some owners of local hotels today and told them I was interested in buying…

Something tells me that there is something I don’t know about hotels that is more complicated than just running numbers…

It wouldn’t surprise me if the desk guy was stealing some of the funds…

Maybe just the particular hotels I went to were shady…

What are the things that I would learn the first week on the job?

Hi,

Have we become an expert in theft overnight? Do we normally accuse people of something we have no evidence of?

Unless a hotel is actually currently for sale you probable piss off the owner nosing around where you have no business being!

It is way more complicated than just running numbers, we have been trying to get you to realize that for months!

Do you aspire to be a slum landlord when you grow up?

That you probable don’t want that job unless you know what your doing!

WHOLESALE SINGLE FAMILY HOMES AND MAKE SOME MONEY!!!

                     GR

I’m on it.

Found one the other day, but turned out it was owned by BB&T, so I’m not sure it would work.

Hotel is a lot of work. People get college degrees in hotel management. You aren’t going to learn the business in a 25 word post.

Employees might steal, but unless it is a rent-by-the-hour place, it is not really a cash business. Your maids could steal soap and the little pillow mints.

If there is a lounge, your bartender can over-pour drinks to get large tips. if there is any cash business, your bartender could possibly steal money from you. If there is a restaurant, your employees could steal frozen steaks.

You can count on guests stealing towels occasionally although it beats me why anyone would want a hotel towel.

I would suggest hiring good people and having an effective inventory system.

Best sign I have ever seen about theft said:

WHEN YOU ARRIVE WE TAKE YOU NAME, DRIVERS LICENSE, TAG NUMBER AND PICTURE OF YOU CAR…IF YOU LEAVE ANYTHING WE WILL SEND IT TO YOU…IF YOU TAKE ANYTHING WE WILL SEND FOR YOU.

Rent by the hour?

Not sure I want to touch that.
