Many people think that a brick wall is maintenance free but they are in need of upkeep just like any other feature on the home. Over time brick walls and the mortar joint will start to deteriorate. When looking over a home be on the look out for visible holes in the masonry veneer. Also look for deteriorating joints, over time water will penetrate these areas. Also look for spalling brick, which means there faces are falling off, this is usually a serious problem that could cost you thousands of dollars to repair.
