Hello everyone! Has anyone out there heard of a high velocity mini duct HVAC unit for rehabbing houses? I know there’s one called Unico and I think there are one or two more. The good thing about it is it’s supposed to take small duct work, and it also avoids having to install a lot of major equipment. Can anyone share any pros or cons on this?
I saw them installing it on an episode of “This Old House”…it appeared that it used duct work that looked like a dryer vent hose that had been insulated. They installed small ceiling outlets about the size of a recessed lighting fixture.
It looked pretty good and they said it worked great…but it WAS on TV, so…
Thanks, Keith! I had no idea it had been on tv. I heard about this from another guy who’s done some home remodeling, and he said it was a great system. Now I have to check on cost!!
the high velocity hvac is a good alternative to rippiing things up to put in big old vents,. It was the way I was going to go in restoring my historical mansion.
however, I did some more research and found out about minisplits. This is the way to go. Do a google search of mini-splits. It has the same plusses – no big vents – but eliminates vents altogether and allows individual controls of different zones or rooms.
