Hello and a quick question about Brazilian Real Estate Investing

Hello everyone, I am new on ReiClub and had a quick question for everyone.

As you may or may not know, billionaire Sam Zell says that Brazil is the hot ticket right now for real estate investing, and has put his money where his mouth is by investing a billion dollars there.

My Brazilian wife and I are looking to acquire a small Brazilian hotel with some views of the ocean, only a block away from one of the most beautiful and popular beaches in the world.

My question is, how do I go about finding potential investors in such a project? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and wishing you all the best for the rest of 2010 and all of 2011,

Terry Coulter

You might try posting at Totally Property. There are lots of passive investors over there. That’s an overseas website, mostly British.

The majority of the investors on this forum are hands-on. They aren’t going to just hand over money for someone else to manage for them. You can expect them to be all up in your business if they invest with you.

No USA person that I know would even consider Brazil because of the violent crime rate, but the British appear to think it is a marvelous place to invest in real estate.

I wish you the best of luck. Economy in Brazil seems to be in very good shape.

Thanks for the suggestion, tatertot! I appreciate it.

Actually the tourist areas in Brazil are kept very safe, they even have “Tourist Police” on patrol there. I lived there for eight months waiting to bring my Brazilian wife home to America and never felt unsafe while there. Although you are right, there are places one should never go, like the favelas in Rio de Janiero for example. Otherwise I found Brazil to be a very friendly and safe place, and I often received preferential treatment since I was an American.

I could drop you off at a mall there, and you would be hard pressed to guess you were in Brazil and not America, except for the signs in Portuguese, and the preponderance of Brazilian people there. But you could for example eat at McDonalds, Subway, Burger King, etc., and watch a movie in English, with captions in Portuguese.

Why on earth would I want to go all the way to Brazil to eat at McDonald’s in an American mall?

It baffles me too why would we go to Brazil to eat at Mcd’s
I get such a bad feeling in my stomach evertime I eat there in the US. Oooo Crap.
